I find this kind of thing unbelievable. If a western lifestyle is so despicable to them, what on earth are they doing living and raising children here?
Very sad.
Life? Good, job done.
A similar thought crossed my mind Ludwig, when it was reported on the lunchtime news. However, there was no mention when the parents came to the UK,as in are they the children of immigrants and they were each born here for example?
Neither excuses the fact that they murdered one of their own children.
Justice has been served, and a warning to other muslim families that honour killings will result in long prison sentences.
Words fail me - I tend to try an see the other person's point of view in News-type stories. But there is never going to be a valid argument for murdering your own child.
No honour at all.
Many of these people came from a village society and were so insular that mixing with members of another village could be frowned upon.
Its not surprising that they often regard us and our lifestyle as heinous.
It will cost a bomb to keep these misguided and brutal parents in jail for life
but it must be done.
just purely out of curiosity, is the phrase 'honour killing' a westernised term?

There is never any honour in killing another human being.
''The parents of the murdered Warrington student Shafilea Ahmed are considering legal action against Cheshire Police.''

Well things have moved a long way since that BBC News report way back in 2004.

They are very much against British society and clearly follow their Pakistani background. They even attempted arrange marriage for their daughter.

A pity that the penalties for their heinous crime weren't dished out by Pakistan legal system.
In this context I think "honour" is the honour or good name of the family. Traditionally, if a family lost its "honour" then it would not be worth marrying into by other members of the tribal group. It has nothing to do with the Western notion.
Thanks Seadogg.

I find the whole thing disgusting.

Then I also agree with ludwig "If a western lifestyle is so despicable to them, what on earth are they doing living and raising children here"?
They have brought more dishonour on their family name and their community, than their daughter could ever have managed.
does it make you wonder what happens 'behind closed doors' in these countries?

(not that the UK is crime/abuse free)
Poor Shafilea, what hell she must have gone through. The sheer arrogance of her parents has never failed to amaze me. Plenty of time for them to think about what they did now eh?? RIP Shafilea x
It would put them to years of hell if they could lock them up or years together in one cell, especially when Shafilea's murderous mother tried to make her husband take the blame.
Yes, aog trying to save her own skin wasn't she ??? I was concerned they may only get about 15 years, but 25 is excellent, wish it could have been more though.
give it a couple of weeks and some no win no fee ponce will lodge an appeal on yuman rites grounds citing they were infringed.
I should imagine they'll be appealing anyway unfortunately.
<yuman rites>

i see what you did there - a hilarious variation on 'ooman rights'
