If so they seem to get plenty of time off, what with touring abroad, and enjoying the Olympics etc.

Perhaps they have special dispensation.
Who cares, they're representing our country and giving a boost to our athletes as well as showing dedication and solidarity unlike many of the other nations royal families
They're there out of duty rather than choice. What would you have them do - never attempt to have proper jobs because they would always need more time off than us lot?
Like it says...they are 'brand ambassadors'. An attractive young couple-supporting our sportsman and women. Perfect.
It's good to see them supporting Team GB, and they are great ambassadors for our Country
Forces or not, everyone gets annual leave

Which should be 30 days Annual Leave.
why? I get more than that.
Anotheoldgit, your avatar what is it exactly as it seems to point to a lover of the monarchy yet this post seems to say otherwise
They are supporting the Queen on overseas travels. Surely that is what Grandchildren do, try to make life easier and in the Queens case what great representatives they make. Secondly they and the rest of the Royal Family are at the Olympics to support all our GB competitors. Then William and Harry
can go back to their duties with HM Forces. They are in a different position to others but also carry out their duties when possible and serve our Country that way too.
Heather Stanning who won Gold in the rowing is an army Captain. She has been given a couple of years off and no doubt she's been all round the world in competitions and has enjoyed the Olympics
No doubt she has, TCL, but she should resign her Commission forthwith.

Whilst the Armed Forces are making huge cuts which mean P45s for some people who currently risk having their backsides blown off in some Godforsaken hell-hole overseas they do not have the luxury of keeping Commissioned officers on the books whilst they mess about in boats.
I must admit that if I'd wanted a sabbatical to go and perform in the Olympics, I don't think my job would have been there when I came back.
NJ I agree, I was making the point there were others in a similar position.
The military has an admirable history of indulging in it's sports men and women who participate at inter-service or international level. Although not participating I would imagine that their senior officers would take a sympathetic view to the role Princes William and Harry are taking in the Olympics.
You don't for one moment think the same rules apply to Royalty as to other ordinary members of the forces do you?

I mean there wouldn't be much point in a monarch if the Royal familly was treated the same as everyone else would there.

They're special because they have special blood

One can be a staunch supporter of the Monarchy, but that doesn't mean that certain members of the family are free from criticism at times.
Suspended now aog.
they are great, and have special duties and responsibilities as princes!

I've just hurt myself falling off my chair laughing - are you serious - you think they would rather be somewhere else pretending to be soldiers , rather than being at the olympics ?
