Prudie, they were bigging up women, not uk women.

Of course some women were going to be succseful at the olympics. There was a certain amount of Gold Silver and Bronze medals available for women to win........ I would hazard a guess that those medals were won by women.

They probably mean compared with former Olympics Mick. Our local news in East Anglia is full of the number of people from E.A. who have won medals of any description, virtually every evening.
It's just the way of the world I think. They grab onto every bit of news they can and make it a talking point to try and promote a section of our society.
Mind you, the individual ladies events have been prominent with 'our' GB ladies.
I just wish the Paralympics got as much publicity when it takes place.
It doesn't appear to have done so in the past.

if Japanese women are doing better than Japanese men, that does say something. Maybe they need to target women more. Maybe they need to target men more so they'll catch up. Whatever, it's not a meaningless statistic.

i did hear jade jones coach claim she was 'like a male athlete' in her attitude to training and the sport etc - which i thought was a bizarre and sexist comment.
as though female athletes dont try as hard and wimp out or something
