" I'd be very interested to know whether they managed to restrain themselves from watching any live Olympics action. I hae me doots ... "

Plenty of people see no live Tv , I have seen nothing of these Olympic games and i may add that i have not seen any live Tv for a few years.
If you wish to be glued to the box Dave that is you're choice please allow other people to have their own choice.
oh jeeebus

I thought you had got over this.
Fair comment Wat - just that the figures suggest that well over 90% of the adult population saw some live Olympics and I would eat my assorted headgear if one or two of the 'rebels' weren't amongst them, given how easy it would be to click the 'wrong' button ...

I watch virtually no TV apart from cricket (which I pay Sky for) - but I'm more than happy to pay the BBC licence fee to support their excellent radio services.
Ric.ror says "Is it not just stealing by another name".

Not if, like me, you don't actually need a licence.
sunny-dave says "If I knew any of the 'rebels' (which thank god I don't) I'd be very interested to know whether they managed to restrain themselves from watching any live Olympics action".

I managed, with ease, not to watch any Olympics action, live or otherwise.
sunny-dave says "they should be left alone once they have confirmed that they don't need a licence."

They don't have to confirm anything.
Bedsit Bob, your "logic" reminds me of a quote from Colin Firth:

"The English people, a lot of them, would not be able to understand a word of spoken Shakespeare. There are people who do and I'm not denying they exist. But it's a far more philistine country than people think."
bedsit bob. If you don't need a licence then it is going to make things more difficult by refusing to confirm you don't need one.
DT I've seen a few examples when the Bard's work has been taken to inner city youth groups who would not understand a single word of his writings .
However when his work is performed as intended , as dramatic entertainment , the so- called uneducated audience was swept along by the plot , characterisation and pace of the timeless themes in his plays .
DTcrosswordfan says "Bedsit Bob, your "logic" reminds me of a quote from Colin Firth:"

Which bit of my logic are you referring to?

I wasn't aware I'd stated any logic?

To the best of my knowledge, I stated just facts.
factor30 says "If you don't need a licence then it is going to make things more difficult by refusing to confirm you don't need one."

More difficult for whom?
why I put the quote in " " - the reference being that ignoring the Olympics was, indeed, a pretty philistine act in my book.

Marty, I agree with your comment - the recent Beeb 2 plays adequately demonstrated your argument too, at least for the richness of story and relationships, the original having that additional quality of language.
I wish we had a Simon posting on this thread.
I'm a philistine for not liking sport?
WatTyler says "I have seen nothing of these Olympic games and i may add that i have not seen any live Tv for a few years."

Likewise, I haven't watched live TV for 32 months.
You are the one who bragged "I managed, with ease, not to watch any Olympics action, live or otherwise." I emphasise your last word.

So you avoided the news, the political programmes, breakfast tv and all the rest such as adverts and references in comedies, soaps, etc - that, to me, manifests itself as the mark of a superbly agile Philistine. Congratulations, you are to be applauded and it merits a gold medal, if, of course, you know the significance of that award.
Where am I bragging?

It's statement of fact.

likewise, as a non-watcher of live TV, I don't see the other stuff you listed.

Again, I'm not bragging. I'm making a statement of fact.
If you never watch TV , bedsitbob, I'm puzzled as to why the issue of TV licences is of concern to you. Have you been bullied by the fascists?
In answer to the question you asked me, I suggest refusing to confirm you don't have TV makes it more difficult for you and the enforcers, unless of course you are seeking a confrontation
factor30 says "If you never watch TV , bedsitbob, I'm puzzled as to why the issue of TV licences is of concern to you.[/quote]

I object to the way LLF people are treated.

"Have you been bullied by the fascists?"

Yes, if that's the term you want to use for them?

"I suggest refusing to confirm you don't have TV makes it more difficult for you and the enforcers"

It certainly makes it more difficult for BBC/TVL, but that's not my concern.

Ignoring them doesn't make it more difficult for me.

If anything, ignoring them makes it easier for me.

"unless of course you are seeking a confrontation"

A confrontation is the furthest thing from my mind, hence why I have no contact with them.

Yo cant have a confrontation with someone you are not interacting with.
So if your approach makes things easy for you, bedsit-bob, what's your concern?
However much I read posts on this topic from RebelSouls and you I still can't work out exactly what the issue is
