One couldn't make this up, or have they?

/// Anybody found not to be entitled to claim benefits will have their payments stopped, while dubious cases will have payments suspended. Those found to be illegally in the country are likely to face action to remove them from Britain. Letters will go out in two “tranches” - next month and October. ///

/// Ministers considered sending some in November but decided not to because this could mean people having their benefits removed “just prior to Christmas.” ///

Now there's British tolerance for you, even if most of them don't celebrate Christmas.

I've seen a fair few versions of benefit claim forms, which ones ask for the claimant's religion or whether they celebrate Christmas?
Good! I'm very pleased the government is cracking down on benefits - but I couldn't see any reference there to how many of these people celebrate Christmas. Did I miss something - or do you know something I don't, AOG?
Isn't AOG implying that these dusky hued strangers will have little regard for the birth in Nazareth or its commemoration?

Ignoring the usual type of implied 'Racist' comment I have come to expect from such as sandyRoe, let me explain.

I was referring to this statement:

/// because this could mean people having their benefits removed “just prior to Christmas.” ///

The benefit claimants that the article refers to are Migrants, and many Migrants who come to this country are not Christians, so I therefore assumed they do not celebrate Christmas, so why would it be any different stopping their benefits 'JUST PRIOR TO CHRISTMAS' as to any other time?
Actually, I agree that if people are not entitled to benefits, they should be stopped regardless of the season. However, I fail to understand how can you possibly make that assumption. Lots of people who come here are Christian, you know.
Wouldn't life be more simple if religion didn't intervene in everyday life....sigh.

I said "many migrants that come to this country are not Christians", not "all" migrants who come.

/// Wouldn't life be more simple if religion didn't intervene in everyday life....sigh. ///

The only reason religion was entered into this debate was the fact that Christmas (a Christian religious festival) was used as an excuse for not remove their benefits at that time.

Wow it is such hard work, I think I will now knock off, Good afternoon.
I don't believe it ! They have been promising crackdowns for years and even if they try the human rights brigade will stop it.
" Anybody found not to be entitled to claim benefits will have their payments stopped"

Perhaps they should also look into why these claims were ever allowed to be processed in the first place? bit like shutting the stable doors once the horse has bolted isn't it?
I'm all for this clamp down and, hopefully, they will also introduce stringent measures to ensure multi-national companies pay tax and MP's claim only what they are entitled to.
That's what I meant AOG....an excuse...religion seems to be an excuse for most things!
It would be a lot simpler if we stopped the floods of migrants who come here every month because we are an easy touch and give out benefits of all sorts.

Those that are here illegally deport immediately

Once word got round these people would not come here !
But who would do the jobs that we don't want anymore?
anotheoldgit you originally said that more than half of the migrants claiming benefits did not celebrate Christmas and then you accuse others of implying you are racist, I wonder why that is?
#Perhaps they should also look into why these claims were ever allowed to be processed in the first place?#

I was speaking to a Pakistani who told me he sold one copy of the Issue and that proved he was self employed and therefore was given a National Insurance number and that entitled him for benifdits. It was as easy as that.
Now where have I heard this before. If you do not hold a uk passport no benefits.
//But who would do the jobs that we don't want anymore? //

These people aren't doing the jobs we don't want to do any more. They're living on benefits.
Now we know what encourages many of them to come here illegally. It has always been stated they came here for work. With nearly 1/2 million in total that money could have gone to genuine claimants.
"anotheoldgit you originally said that more than half of the migrants claiming benefits did not celebrate Christmas and then you accuse others of implying you are racist, I wonder why that is? "

I'd also like to know why that is, I dont see anything racist in the statement whatsover, just a statement of fact that a lot of migrant benefit scroungers dont celebrate Christmas
I don't give a hoot whether they celebrate Christmas or not. If they're not paying their way and are a drain on the public purse, good riddance!
