I think the only people that can answer that are muslims - how many of the complaints are from them?
They might have got away with it had it been funny. The usual pantomime guff.

Yes you have a good point there, most of these sort of complaints are generally from the 'yoghurt eating, sandal wearing brigade' who take it upon themselves to speak for others.
I watched it and I thought it was utterly pitiful and disrespectful to the whole Asian community. It was stereotypically unfunny from begining to end and totally cringeworthy. I'd not be over thrilled if anyone did a similarly stereotypical load of old codswallop about Irish people, so I can understand why they are upset.
i watched 10 minutes. it was disrespectful to anyone who pays tv licence . hi nox :)
Nox I turned it off because it was so unfunny!!

I feel the same way about it as i do when I see comedy shows taking the jimmy out of gingers!!

however, if it causes offense to the muslims then their complaints should be listened to, as it is their hurt that matters.
Hi Ann:)
I didn't watch it, not my cup of tea but anyone can be offended by anything they want. However, almost every comedy show I can think of works on stereotypes. Isn't that the point of a lot of them?
Agree Anne. What a total lot of unfunny tripe. Anyone with any intelligence must have been insulted by the BBC actually showing this.
It was embarassingly unfunny.

Father Ted??
Noxy - I'd not be over thrilled if anyone did a similarly stereotypical load of old codswallop about Irish people.

They have, it's called Mrs Browns Boys!!
Father Ted is brilliantly funny though. I don't think the show was disrespectful of muslims in particular, just completely unfunny. Most comedy shows take the rise of of certain groups of people, whether it be Muslims, Irish, Posh people, inner city people, etc. etc. etc. That's quite normal.

Something 'Old Gits Brigade' would never dream of doing of course.

Must totally agree with EvianBaby, just cast your minds back to most situation comedies.
Father Ted/Mrs Brown's Boys mocks the Irish Catholics
Still Game mocks the Glaswegians.
Rev/Vicar of Dibley - the CofE
So Haunt Me - Jews
Goodness Gracious Me - the English (in parts)

This sitcom was written by British Muslims and I saw nothing offensive in it.
Yes not very funny, although the crap brummie accents were pretty funny.
I thought Mr Khan was like an Asian Delboy. I don't recall anyone complaining about him being a white stereotype of Londoners. Its just funny. If it was that insulting to Asians surely the Asian actors wouldn't have agreed to appear in it?
Father Ted is not very stereotypical, imo.
When I first saw that abomination, Father Ted, on television I was livid. I complained, but to no avail. I hope the people who are complaining about this deliberate slight on Islamic womanhood have more success.
