Shouldn't all female Service personnel, be given a pregnancy test before leaving for an overseas posting, especially to a war zone?

What a good idea.

I just wondered that not having a period for 6or 7 months might have been a "give away."
How can she have not have known she was pregnant?
One way of getting new soldiers for the Army.....
you can still have periods whilst you are pregnant
dave......they will talk about about change of environment, change of diet, tension, ect........all giving reasons why she didn't notice that she wasn't having a period................odd..........but medicine is............I suppose.
fluffy....can you ?..........normal periods?
no idea about "normal sqad" but my niece was still having them albeit light unless she was about 5 months.
lol i meant "normal" sqad. not a "normal sqad"

im going to shut up and go away now :-)
It happened to someone that one of my sisters knew - much younger, anorexic actually and she thought that the lack of the monthly was due to that, the family and her that she was putting on some weight and it was one of those pregnancies on the bum (the old saying being girls on the bum, boys on the tum). First thing she knew was sitting on the loo and the waters breaking.........
fluffy....yes....fine ....small bleeds are certainly compatible with a normal pregnancy......but not normal periods.

The other point is, this scenario.......an unmarried soldier presents at a Base Camp medical centre and is found to be almost at term with a normal pregnancy and states that her periods have been normal and present throughout. How does one know? It is her word and her word only.
DT.....I suppose in medicine one should never say never.
"The birth has stunned military chiefs ..........."

Not the daily mounting death toll, green on blue murders, fighting with one hand bahind their back, corruption from top to bottom in Afghan poitics, defence cuts, inneffectual leadership at home and on and on?

This has them "stunned".
douglas ;-)
Sqad...you wouldn't know they weren't 'normal' periods. You bleed each month and you'd assume it was your period.

Also, some contraceptions can stop periods but are still not 100%.
"Ban the Baby" not "Ban the Bomb" then?

No one has yet answered the question.

All the Ministry of Defence has said is "Mother and Baby are doing well" ah!

How much will this little affair cost? It is said a spec ial maternity team will have to be flown out to Afghanistan to escort Mother and Baby back to the UK, plus the fact of all the extra work it has caused the Medics in Camp Bastion, who could have been (fortunately they were not) overstretched looking after casualties after the attack on Camp Bastion.

It has been said that almost 200 female Service Personnel have been sent home pregnant from Afghanistan, whereas a simple routine pregnancy test before they embarked would have saved all that trouble, and it would be a chargeable offence for those who became pregnant while on active duty in Afghanistan.

I thought that i had:

"What a good idea. "

ummmm...by "normal" I meant "normal" to you.
there is very little privacy in camps like this - had she been obviously preggars someone would have seen it.

shall we test men for knob rot before and after postings as well then?

stupid sexist comment

Sorry Squd, yes of course you did if not a little briefly, but this question then seemed to get rather side-tracked by talk of Periods, normal or otherwise etc.

Yup, too much information.
