Yet another story from the Middle Ages, how many more of these unfortunate young women must die in such horrific circumstances before these evil practices are wiped out in 21st century Britain?

/// 21st century Britain where a bloke can go out drinking 24 until he is so off his face that coming home and beating his wife in front of his children seems like a good idea? ///
What the he*l has that got to do with a young pregnant wife being murdered by her husband and his family, so as to rid her of evil spirits?

/// Just trying to point out that its not all rosy in our garden is

I don't know about your garden EvianBaby but there certainly isn't any drunken bloke in my garden, beating his wife in front of their children.
But to be serious, such things as you suggest do go on, even women beating up men, and horrific as they may be, do you seriously think that they are on the same level as these medieval practices, that have been introduced into 21st century Britain?

Serious question - you have asked "how many more of these unfortunate young women must die in such horrific circumstances before these evil practices are wiped out in 21st century Britain?"
Are you asking for an actual number, or are you asking what policies and social initiatives need to be put in place in order to protect vulnerable women?
It's a very noble question, if that's what you're asking. Perhaps this could be tackled by improvements to the way that social services, the police and care services (hostels, hospitals, GPs etc) communicate - but that would take a massive investment.
What's your take on how we solve this?

Why? Do you think it's catching, likely to promote other such killings? Or increasing generally? Or likely to occur less often because the perpretators got jailed? Or less often as a generation grows up here, educated here, which doesn't believe that nonsense?
If these people had killed the woman 'back home' as it were, in some village in Pakistan, they would probably not be in jail now because it's likely the killing would have been accepted by a community that believes in 'djinns'.At least, doing it here; and they would have killed her anywhere; they are locked up.

no flobs, but what evian describes is. Around two women a week die as a result
National coalition against domestic violence figures are that:
One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
An estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year.
85% of domestic violence victims are women.
Historically, females have been most often victimized by someone they knew.
Females who are 20-24 years of age are at the greatest risk of nonfatal intimate partner violence.
Most cases of domestic violence are never reported to the police
