Although the trustees of the Bomber Command Association raised £6.5 million needed to build the memorial, they are now faced with some of the cost of the unveiling ceremony which cost another £827,000, of which they have now to find £550,000.

Does this in anyway reflects a nations gratitude to the 55,573 who died in the service of Bomber Command?

in the grand scheme of things it isn't a lot of money, shame on them.
How can they afford that sort of money when the state look after the hooks tribe & the cost of his trial, Oh, and his tibes of sons that are in prison.
Of course the government should foot the bill. Shameful!
Here's your chance to do something about it.

Yes AOG they should, why allow the memorial to be built there then leave the trustees with the ceremonial costs. I presume the Government had some say in the unveiling ceremony. It certainly doesn't reflect the successive Governments' gratitude for services to the Country.
wonder why no one has updated this, or is it a separate post, as the government will be putting their hands in their pockets after all, at least according to today's paper.

All is saved Cameron has made yet another 'U' Turn, and says the Government will meet the costs.
you must be telepathic to post exactly the same moment.
i was aware it had been commented on, but not that the final money will not have to be paid by the old chaps. Shame on the government for not sorting this out properly.
I had followed AOG's thread so didn't comment on the other one.
