A very sad case but.

As she was at a family party were there no friends or relations to drive her home, no one to give her money for a taxi, and should the police be used as a taxi service for drunks or tipsy people on their way home after a night out.

it is really unrealistic for police to take every drunk girl home. as someone else has said, i wouldn't have been in that situation - i always book a taxi home and never drink my taxi money. why couldn't a relative have helped? if people start blaming the police, they should also blame the relatives for letting her walk home alone.

no
I'm afraid I wouldn't have put myself in that situation in the first place, I wouldn't walk alone in the dark.
Of course they should, like they ought to have given the young lad who they left to freeze to death in just a t shirt when it was minus 7 a lift as well. Only a moron would behave so irresponsibly.
perhaps they could have used some common sense, woman on her own, walking late at night, no they are not a taxi service but for heavens sake why could they not have helped this once.
no....it is very unfortunate in this case, but police are there to do a job, not drive people home. how were they to know some sicko was out and about?
so no compassion, sorry thought police were supposed to be helpful. Could they perhaps have offered to get her a taxi even.
they should have made sure she was safe, if it had been my daughter's inquest they had attended they'd have been told so in no uncertain terms

Nox, so every sat night any drunk girl gets a free taxi home courtesy of the police, meanwhile crimes, muggings, stabbings robberies are being committed and where are the police............Taxi.

because sicko's are always out and about, and not just at night.
Part of the Police's job though is to protect members of the public, sometimes from themselves, instead of sitting in their nice warm cars totally devoid of any common sense.

I agree that they could have called her a taxi but she was at a family party, why did they let her walk home.

there doesn't seem to info on that point. But i do think they could have been more helpful
Yes.

She was alone, it was late, she was incapable and had no taxi money. It's called being a human being to offer some assistance. The least they could have done was arranged a taxi for her- out of their own pockets if necessary.
she could have paid them back next day. There doesn't seem a lot of compassion or common sense about this, whether she was the worse for wear or not.
A really sad case, I think I would have stayed put at the party until the next morning. Years ago my OH was breathalysed as we were taking a friend home from the pub, he was slightly over the limit so they locked up the car took him to the police station, and left me to walk home it was almost midnight by this time. I was absolutely petrified, fortunately the friend took me to his house and phoned for a taxi for me. This was before mobiles were the rage. OH was home before me his reading was below the limit by the time he got to the station.
No everyone should look after No1, just because she didnt sort her lifts or save her money for a taxi why should the police be blamed
I would have given her a lift. surely they could have contacted someone to to ensure she got home safely.
I have put drunk women into Taxi's who I've never laid eyes on before because it was obvious they needed help, don't see why it's such a massive deal for people who are paid to safeguard the public.
the AA would have responded better than those two plastic plods, they never leave a lone female they keep them talking on the phone at the very least.
