Since this rare Hurricane is owned by the Historic Aircraft Collection Ltd, should the Government allow it to be sold off to an overseas buyer?

I think if it's owned by someone then they should be able to decide for themselves what happens to it.
Yes. There seems to be no shortage of Hurricanes, and Spitfires too, flying over Duxford on display days. That the Historic Aircraft Collection sees fit to dispose of this one, now it's restored, suggests that there's no loss to the country seen, but there is a profit.

This plane is rare example of a Hurricane XII, and is the only one airworthy in Britain.
but do the government own it? no then they can't keep it

Would you rather the government spent £1.7million on buy an old plane or equipping current day service personal?
Perhaps you are worried that the RAF might need it.
Is HAC Ltd a Government Dept? if it isn't......HANDS OFF!

The Historic Aircraft Collection acquired it from the RCAF. It took part in WWII, maybe somebody from one of the countries involved may just be as interested in the history of WWII.

Does it say it's being sold overseas?

If it's a Mark xii then it's Canadian built

Part of their heritage!

That is not the question and well you know it, but obviously if it came to a choice (which it doesn't have to) the latter would come first.

But then taking that attitude perhaps we should sell off all our Museums treasures, and paintings, that would bring in a few pounds to be spent on more important things.

After all to most 'British' citizens these days our heritage means nothing to them.

So a Japanese Toyoto built in England is part of our heritage then?

What a ridiculous statement.
In a way yes

The point is if you want to preserve a Hurricane as part of a heritage collection for the nation (and I think that's definately worth doing) you should pick one that was actually built in Britain and flown by British Airmen.

But this is sobering reading

Now that is a choice to make.
As it happens (oh dear, that sounds like Jimmy Savile), anyway, as it is,aog, our museums have plenty of stuff which could be sold off, to the benefit of the nation and without causing any loss to our perceived heritage. You can gauge that by seeing how many identical, or identical in style, pieces of porcelain there are in the Fitzwilliam and other major museums, or how many bits of ancient Egyptian material our museums hold, much of it repetitive, or even that one of our museums has all Turner's works, left on his death, and which are never on display and never have been, being of no exceptional interest.

Only problem is, or may be, that much of it has been given on condition that it won't be sold, or the museum itself is prevented, by its own charter or the statute establishing it, from disposing of the property.

Still don't see that one Hurricane, built in Canada and a late model, is particularly worth keeping here.
