browsing shutdown

when I try to get on the internet, I get on google, type in whatever I want, and after it comes up, it suddenly disappears and the lot's gone. I am back to desktop. When I try again, a message at the bottom of the screen says my
browsing session closed suddeny and a box says restore session, clicking on this invariably produces nothing. What is going on and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance
