It is the landlords prerogative to choose who they serve as long as that choice isn't based on religion, sexuality or gender.
It may well be that this pub has had a no service personnel policy in the past, it just happens that they have been bitten on the bum on this occasion.

I can remember back in the 80s my brother RIP was seconded while on excercises in Belize to an american unit.Whilst there he was taken to fort lauderdale by his new unit and says he was never allowed to buy a drink meal or pay for anything at all.Definitely a different attitude.

If the Bull or any establishment wants to ban someone that's OK by me as long they say WHY. The staff don't turn away custom unless they are told to do so . They have apologised . So what ? Everyone apologises when they are caught out. A gesture like a free lunch might show if they really value the squaddies. The truth is they are hoping it wont affect their civvy trade.

But on the basis of the story which we are debating - there is no evidence that any of these military personel have either!
Of course, all the examples of people you have given are brave - in the circumstances you have chosen to place them.
But on the evidence presented, these are people who are dressed in a uniform, and may, for all you or I know, have been sitting around in Afghanistan camps and never seen an insurgent, much less been under fire, or called upon to be brave.
Rescuing a colleague under fire - brave.
Being in Afghanistan - doing your job.
