In what way does the possession of male genitalia make you a better bishop?

Seriously - what's the big deal with appointing women as bishops?
And for that matter - is there any chance of a female Dr Who???

that's the point sp. The C of E sits in the House of Lords and is the Established (official) Church of the UK. If they want to take all their own decisions then they should relinquish that right. While they have a voice by right in how the UK is run then they have a responsibili ty to consider the opinion of all of the UK, not just their own.

Anotheoldit, it is odd that you think it matters not whether the right to hold a particular office is restricted to a particular sex yet you say it is right that women must pay the same insurance rates as men. As for the C of E managing to function without female Bishops, could the same not have been said about the UK functioning without females having the vote? Would you say women having the right to vote is wrong?

So what you seem to be saying is that if we're are not members of the General Synod, nor indeed practicing Christians, it's none of our business?
Is that right?
Does this mean that from now on, you will never raise the matter of the Black Police Officer's Association...because, y'know...you're not a copper or black?
<sits back curiously wondering how AOG can possibly field this one>

Any idea (or care) whether or not your local Archdeacon, is either Male or Female?
No.
I also don't know whether my local council leader is male or female, or the Chief Inspector at my local police station.
However, I want to live in a society with a level playing field - where your sex, race or sexuality is irrelevant.
Don't you?

Anotheoldgit, in answer to the question should there be female imams, please read this link, http ://e n.m. wiki pedi a.or g/wi ki/W omen _as_ imam s#se ctio n_4
Starbuckone - It would have been extremely odd 2000yrs ago for a woman to be anything more than a constant child bearer, nevermind a wandering disciple with Jesus and his crew.
The books of the Bible were written from a place and time when women were a poor second to men and for these 'lay people' (as heard on Jeremy Vine yesterday) to say that the Bible was written to go along with time rather than for 'at that time' is hogwash.

Not sure about Bishops but nephews are easier than nieces, that's for sure/
Explanation required :::: having no kids of my own ( although a bachelor can never be entirely sure I suppose ) I have taken nephews and nieces for outings on numerous times over the last 25 years, and I know one thing for sure....its a whole lot easier when you are halfway up a 2500 foot mountain and a nephew needs to pee then when his sister or girl cousin needs to do the same. A LOT easier.
