Heard this on the news this morning about the linesman being kicked to death by teenage football players. It really goes to show that nobody is safe in this world wherever they are and whatever they are doing.

Appalling but ........

It really goes to show that nobody is safe in this world wherever they are and whatever they are doing.

That is OTT
true, Mick, I am very unlikely to be kicked to death by my computer. All the same, a sad story. Does this sort of thing happen in other sports?
Question Author
I may have over reacted a bit Mick but I'm sure I've never heard of this happening before.
This kind of thing HAS happened before.
Disgusting and appalling way to react.
Didn't some footballer once say 'football is more important than life or death' or some such equally silly thing.
If they're found guilty I hope they rot.
Unfortunately it is not uncommon for refs and linesmen to get attacked, thankfully it does not usually end up with a dead official.
I really have no idea why people put themselves out to help others only to be on the end of abuse. I have witnessed many , many amateur refs/linesmen suffer abuse and violence.

jno, rugby players have more respect for officials than do football players.
A manger said it alba, Bill Shankly.
Thanks Mick. A stupid thing to say.
You're right about the rugby players. They are passionate on the field but behave themselves better than footballers IMO.
Question Author
We see it all the time, players arguing with refs and linesmen but for such young players to kick a linesman to death is just frightening.
I think it was TIC alba.

when I say rugby players have more respect, I mean even at amateur level.
Yes, rugby players only go for eye-gouging, head-stamping, etc., much more civilised.
15 and 16 year olds ?! What The Funicular
Canary what are you talking about?
We are talking about attitudes towards officials.
true, Mick, even Richie McCaw never does more than look slightly disappointed when a ruling goes against him.
No humanity when the mob instinct takes over.
