apologies then if that is how it reads, i sincerely hope the local council does more for all the community, because quite frankly the whole idea of one place of worship, that serves only one part of the community seems strange in the extreme. Christianity for all it's ills does welcome all, as far as i remember.

I don't believe it's a very strong argument to say, "Yes, but they could have accepted the planning proposal just as easily".

I just like to offer forward an alternative point of view. In this case, I don't agree with (which I think is) em10's assertion that Newham Council have done anything wrong here.

My points earlier regarding the Muslim community are mere observations. I'm as uninterested in defending Islam as you are in attacking it.

em10 is correct. According to the BBC, the mosque was first mooted 10 years ago - however, that doesn't necessarily mean that a planning request was submitted to the council at that time.

In fairness, being made to wait ten years for a planning application doesn't sound likely.

How about blowing it up ? To me it's an eyesore and always has been.
How can a couple of chimneys sticking up from a dilapidated building be considered an icon. It may have some historic value but iconic is it not.

read through that and it would seem some just don't understand the word no. I am an atheist as are others on here, so no axe to grind against any religion, except to say that the priorities of local councils shouldn't be pandering to one section of the local community, but serve all to their full capacity. The application has been a long time and if you think that it doesn't always take this long to get planning permission for builds, it can. Especially when the architects, designers are asked to redesign or submit further drawings to make the buildings more pleasing, palatable to fit in with the area and it's surroundings. I know this because some parts of our area have had planning permission going back years and years, same with the redevelopment of parts of Camden along the wharf where developers want to add in many office spaces, some residential, it all takes time, especially if there is lots of local opposition. Which there has been with this Mosque.
