One must ask the same question as this reader,
/// This is all rather odd. Newham is reportedly one of the most economically/socially deprived areas of the country - but the 'community' appears to have access to , literally, vast sums of money to build the proposed mosque. Where is this money
now ? ///

Christianity for all it's ills does welcome all, as far as i remember.

Another piece of our 'Dark Satanic Mills' bought up by persons from a foreign land..
/// The Malaysian consortium which bought the 39-acre site in south-west London in July for £400m plans to build 3,500 homes, offices, shops and a park. ///
But if that is what they are going to do to it, it can only be a good thing.

No, I'm an athiest.
I just like to offer forward an alternative point of view. In this case, I don't agree with (which I think is) em10's assertion that Newham Council have done anything wrong here.
My points earlier regarding the Muslim community are mere observations. I'm as uninterested in defending Islam as you are in attacking it.

I suppose they need it for the 120,000 illegal immigrants about to be granted an amnesty.

How about blowing it up ? To me it's an eyesore and always has been.
How can a couple of chimneys sticking up from a dilapidated building be considered an icon. It may have some historic value but iconic is it not.

read throu gh that and it would seem some just don't under stand the word no. I am an athei st as are other s on here, so no axe to grind again st any relig ion, excep t to say that the prior ities of local counc ils shoul dn't be pande ring to one secti on of the local commu nity, but serve all to their full capac ity. The appli catio n has been a long time and if you think that it doesn 't alway s take this long to get plann ing permi ssion for build s, it can. Espec ially when the archi tects , desig ners are asked to redes ign or submi t furth er drawi ngs to make the build ings more pleas ing, palat able to fit in with the area and it's surro undin gs. I know this becau se some parts of our area have had plann ing permi ssion going back years and years , same with the redev elopm ent of parts of Camde n along the wharf where devel opers want to add in many offic e space s, some resid entia l, it all takes time, espec ially if there is lots of local oppos ition . Which there has been with this Mosqu e.
