He has decided not to sue, so that's that. Personally, whilst I think he had every right to be annoyed, his response was a good one - it made the perpetrators look juvenile and pathetic. Sueing would have made TC look petty and vindictive. The argument that 'it could have been acid' doesn't really hold any er.. water for me - one could argue 'Oh, it might have been a hand grenade disguised as a microphone...' Yeah... but it wasn't, nor was it acid. You can't sue on the basis of 'it could have been worse'!

I think actually the whole world breathed a collective sigh of relief that we didn't have to watch another nauseating Tom and Kate all over each other episode. Maybe the interviewer was trying to cool him down.

Most importantly, it kind of spoils the image I will ever have of him again in Mission Impossible. How about a bit of 'real' method acting in his next role? Next time a baddie tries to shoot him, he should just grab the guys arms and say 'Hey, why did you do that? You're a jerk, a jerk. I was just trying to save the world. And you do that? You're a jerk'.

I'm glad he's decided not to sue. That would have been going too far. I think I might sue Channel 4 for billing this as comedy, though. Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of celebrities being taken down a peg or two, but this was just pathetic. Where's Dennis Pennis when you need him? Oh yes, I remember - he (or at least his creator, Paul Kaye) sold out to the unthreatening world of Sunday evening dramas with the likes of Michelle flamin' Collins. For shame.

But I digress. I'm no fan of Tom Cruise or his alleged acting, but he does at least seem one of Hollywood's nice guys, which I guess is why they picked him. Someone mentioned Russell Crowe earlier? They wouldn't have dared :-)

Ha ha, I can just imagine Crowe. Bam! A heterosexual instinct would have taken over and fists would be flying ;-)

I agree with you, the whole thing is amazing. With the wealth of Pennis type comic talent the UK has to offer, we end up with a guy who uses a squirty microphone?! Is the rest of the show going to be like that?

I just loved Pennis. 'Demi Moore Demi Moore! BBC. If it were tastefully done, and you were paid the right money, would you consider doing a show with all your clothes on?'

i think he handled it pretty well considering who fuming he was behind all that control.  i applaud him for handling it the way he did and hope the bloke who did it was rough-handled by the bouncers.

i'm not a tom cruise fan, i don't mind the bloke though, so i'm coming from a regular person's perspective here.

sharon osbourne had a more natural response but unfortunately that will have given them what they wanted - some unique footage of her.  Good luck with her lawsuit against them though.

Your question is simple to answer though - how would you feel if it was you?

On top of that, if you are a highly recogniseable, highly paid movie star of that stature (or even less) there are always weirdos and loonies, and who's to say that someone couldn't use the same situation to spray him with acid, or anything else for that matter?

Tom Cruise is well-known for his interaction with the public (esp at these events), something that, esp in recent years, is increasingly rare with famous people.  This kind of thing would put me off.  And this was a "press representative".

On a more personal level, I think this type of Jeremy Beadle entertainment, that compromises the dignity people, famous or not, is immature and abusive (although I used to find Dennis Pennis....was that his name....funny sometimes).

"It was a cheap stunt and he has right to be annoyed, personally I thought it was funny as I think TC is completely up his own ass and I don't like the guy.  Lets face it theres no harm done.   Pressing charges will just make him look even more stupid."

Greg222 is it me or did you contradict yourself??

Looks that way to me Woofgang.  I admit I was a bit confused.

PS - I hope it's ok still to have an opinion of oneself.  If not, please do let me know.

Sorry woofgang - the PS wasn't directed towards you - just to clarify! :-)
If it was done to someone else then I'd probably object more but my double standards are to the fore. I find Tom Cruise quite tiresome and wouldn't have batted an eyelid if someone squirted him with neon green paint.
If you even look funny at Halle Berry, on the other hand, you should be imprisoned.

I like the way that Tom Cruise says "I'm GIVING YOU an interview". Why couldn't he just say, "I'm prostituting myself round anyone here with a camera to promote me in my new film. Not so much to promote the film, just to promote me. Now I might look a little wet and silly when I find my next cameraman. That's why I'm upset"
In fact, I'd have more respect for the little perma-smiling midget if he did just punch the guy. His whiny questions made him seem pathetic but I admit I'm a little biased.
Looks like I'm out on my own, I quite like his work, especially Vanilla Sky. Tom took one in the eye for all of us. The journo should be hanged.

Woolfgang and ACW.

Admittedly is does look like I contradicted myself.  What I was getting at is the stunt wasn't that original, but I (personally) found it funny just because it was Tom Cruise who was the victim....  (pressing charges is a bit extreme also)

hmmm I'm doing it again!!

what exactly is the funny side of having a stranger squirt you with water in order to promote his media career?
I think the guy who squirted the water was,to put it mildly,an A grade prat. Tom Cruise handled the situation very well. Most people, myself included, would`ve just laid the pillock out & given his dentist some work.
