Just had a box of wine wrongly delivered to us from Laithwaites. There was no name on it, just address. (Our road,Tonbridge). Quickly realised that we hadn't ordered any wine, so looked at label which said'Love from Heather & Mark'. We don't know any couple by that name, and managed to catch delivery driver to call him back. On checking address label, we saw that it should have been delivered a few houses away. Driver said that he'd already tried that house and it wasn't them either. He took it away and drove off. For a fraction of a second, I thought 'should have kept that - 12 free bottles of plonk - very Happy Christmas!' Then thought - NO! Heather & Mark would be most upset, as would the rightful recipients. Maybe Heather or Mark are ABers - if so, please check address of people you sent the box of wine to, and make sure they received it. I'm guessing the majority of other ABers would have done the same?
But you probably would have had to sign for it, and then when Heather and Mark contacted the courier company, they would have come back round for it! :-)
No, I wasn't asked to sign for it, actually. He just plonked it down in the porch and ran back to the van.( It was pouring with rain! Maybe Laithwaites should implement a policy of getting people to sign for their wine cases. This wasn't Royal Mail, but they often don't get signatures when they are meant to.
No, as I said, my conscience wouldn't allow it! I would have felt guilty with every mouthful.(well, with the first few bottles, anyway). I really hope that Heather & Mark, or someone who knows them, reads this. Too much to hope for, I suppose.
A long time ago I had a largish amount of money transferred into my account from somewhere on the Continent, I withdrew it, put it in a Building Society account, it's still there 20+yrs later and has done quite nicely thank you!
Ok, now I'm wishing I'd kept it. Could have invited all you friendly ABers round for a pre -Christmas drink. How far would people be prepared to travel though? Am in rainy Kent.
I would love to think that I would be honest, but I probably wouldn't. My conscientious would get to me, but the guilt would lessen the more wine I drank. By the twelfth bottle, I'd undoubtedly forget that I had neighbours
Thanks Brinjal, Georsiesmum and others who think I did the right thing. I'd have been on a huge guilt trip if I'd kept it. Hopefully the driver took it back and Laithwaites can trace the person who sent it. I definitely won't ever order through them though!
