Do you feel sorry for them for being so blind and gullible?

Or do you just think theyre idiots that should have known better and deserve all the heartache they get?

i heard stories during the harold camping debacle that said people had sold all their stuff, left their jobs, abandoned their homes etc - and generally just gone on 'end of world' frivolous gallavants - and are now homeless, lost and miserable... some have spent months - even years - 'practising' survival in bunkers etc - and I assume similar things have happened on this one - possibly on a larger scale too, as this one seems to have been a more widespread thing.

i, of course, pity anyone who finds themselves in tough situation and is suffering - but at the same time i think, they brought it on themselves - how could they be so stupid?
you would hope they would learn from it, but many just carry on and wait for the next date...

sadly, it is usually the head of the household who is usually responsible and, in their mania, they bring down their kids and maybe elderly parents etc too.

the whole thing is very sad and baffling, but unfortunately it will happen again and again.

what are your thoughts?

i concur with your first sentence
There are a whole pile of people, here and in the US (and no doubt elsewhere too) who are still stockpiling against civil insurrection and disaster (the guns who shot the children in the US last week belonged to a stockpiler).

I don't feel anything for them, if they believe that, it's up to them.
Back in the eighties I worked with a man who had been CEO of a big multi national company. He had taken his pension some years back sold everything and waited for the end of the world when the comet kohutek came. Well the comet came and went and I suppose he may have passed on by now as he was a certain age back then. , he was working as a lower positioned person and all because of some outlandish belief. Oh well it takes all types I suppose.
Many people have a compelling need to believe. It's just a question of degree.
If they are mentally ill or have learning difficulties then so be it, otherwise, hell mend them as me mother would say.
I have no doubt that some idiot will "discover" a new doomsday date and so the cycle will continue..
I have no sympathy for them. They're idiots. As you say though it's a shame if others get dragged into their nonsense.
...so all those tinned peaches were in vain?? Sheesh...
good ballast though, sloopy
to answer the op, some very vulnerable and gullible people, alongside some completely dangerous wingnuts imo

boxy, me bilges are in a sorry midwinter state at the mo, but will be sorted post solstice I hope
I don't believe these stories about preppers anymore than I believe in the end of the world on 21 Dec.
"The End of the World is Nigh". I've heard that for more than 60 yrs from when I was a boy in the Bible College of Wales, School.

Utter rubbish, as is all religion.

Ron.
launches divine thunderbolt at Ron
Skeeter Davis made the end of the world great listening
I've lived through a few doomsday prediction and I've never heard that the event is going to happen at a particular time, just a date [the 21th this time]. As I am now 13 hours pre-GMT, a date makes it all very laughable.
They'll be right one day. Then you'll eat your words. Just have to wait about 4 billion years.....
I heard it was to start at midnight and was alphabetical.
First the Afganis, Africans, Algerians, Americans etc.
Then Belgians, Brazilians, Bulgarians etc.

Actually, I've always wanted to be a Zulu.

They'll keep it all for the next prediction. They seem to pop up fairly regularly.
I like tinned peaches
