Britain in the EU

Why is it always Britain in the EU and not UK in the EU. Does Northern Ireland not count??

Britain and the UK mean the same thing (= the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland). As that suggests, Great Britain doesn't include Northern Ireland.

A lot of foreigners seem to think England means Britain, it does not. Ask the Scots, Welsh and Northern Irish. I do not have a problem being called British, (as my passport says) but I do object  to being called English. I am a Scot but I am also British.

 

On this subject Mr Henman was Englsih, but Mr Murray is British !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmm Wimbledon !!!!

"Britain" is the "everyday" name for the UK whereas "Great Britain" refers to the island comprising Scotland, Wales and In-gulund (as the natives call it.)
