Old Road

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but I can't decide which is right. In 1962 my husband and I drove from Blackpool to Morecambe on a road that at one point was along the edge of the beach. I can't find any information about such a road but we both remember driving over it. Can someone please tell us we both aren't going mad? Thank you in advance.

By following the coast road north to Fleetwood you arrive at the River Wyre. Taking the ferry across takes you to Knott End-on-Sea, where it's possible to take a route which follows the coast for a short while before turning to head for the A588 road to Lancaster.
You would, of course, have had the beach to your left earlier as well, all of the way from Blackpool to Fleetwood.

Perhaps you encountered a diversion on the run in from Lancaster (or you were simply heading for the southern end of Morecambe anyway)? If, instead of heading straight towards Morecambe town centre, you turn off towards Heysham, you come into Morecambe from the southern end, running alongside the broad beach all of the way.
