Sad but not hugely surprising given the increasingly online culture.

How sad for potentially another store close down, they were clearing out Jessops on the main shopping street a couple of day ago.

Shops disappearing all over and big names too.

What is the future for the high street?

When pretending to work hard in Oxfam this afternoon I heard that one of our other stores had closed the other day. As long as my little shop survives - it is my haven from a chaotic mind.

Our Wallis' seems to be more concessions here, one in BHS and one in Debenhams at least I think.

So many stores disappearing though, JJB, Milletts, Peacocks (now a pound shop!), Comet...

Even saw a Starbucks which had shut down! Lots of small independants as well with mini supermarkets popping up all over.

If getting rid of HMV's music shops help's the rest of the HMV group survive, then I'm all for it.

Waterstones is part of that group and, while I'm not too bothered about being unable to buy CDs and DVDs on the High Street, I'd really be upset if we lost the UK's only decent bookshop chain.

I would imagine waterstones are suffering, they did say at the start of the year that there would be a lot of shops going to the wall this year.

waterstones are struggling, very badly. I knew HMV were going i think i mentioned it in a thread before christmas. I work in a pretty decent book shop, manage to find what most people are looking for and if not on the shelf i can order it in within 5 -7 days, very rare that a customer is disapointed.

and that's why HMV are in talks ummmm, it will get worse, people are shopping from home, soon you won;t even need to go out for groceries at all it will be home delivery only.

Chris....can't imagine not having a bookshop to while away an hour or two browsing.......I've never yet bought a book from Amazon.....hope I never have to.

Just look at those lovely postcards
