Athletics Meeting In Glasgow
I went along yesterday, as much to see the new venue as anything else, and had quite a good afternoon in a nice modern arena. However, I was bitterly disappointed at the lack of "big" names in the GB and NI team. The big names from elsewhere got a wonderful reception and, all in all, it was a good day out, but for top dollar tickets I expected more from our team selectors.
Surely the way to build on our Olympic legacy is to strike while interest is high and make sure some of our big names turn out to attract spectators and maximise that interest. I know a lot of them athletes are in early season training, but there are only a few UK based events every year, and those that hold the purse strings could surely "ensure" attendance at some of them, say a set number of stars per event.

Surely it is not outwith the powers at UK Athletics to delegate a few "stars" to attend each event? When little kids are attending these events the UK Athletics mandarins should be doing everything in their power to keep them interested, and a Jessica Ennis or a Mo Farrah would have been perfect. I don't expect every single medal winner to turn up, but a few would have made it a great day out.
