The headlines in the Daily Express today say four million Bulgarians want to move to Britain when migration rules are relaxed next year. They want to come to escape poverty in their own country. What are your thoughts on this?

/// Just like the Chinese depended on the population boom a while back. It paid off for them anyway look at them now. Without a constant growth of population the economy will be ruined. ///

Didn't they put a curb on how many children couples could have? I think two was the maximum.

/// I'm sorry to say this but there is no other way. Just think of this country in a Great Depression again. Now that would be a lot worse than a few million Bulgarians! ///

And you accuse others of using scare tactics.

And while on the subject of scare tactics, don't you think that this country is actually on the verge of a Great Depression now. and a few million Bulgarian coming to this country will only race us even faster towards that dreadful outcome?
A few million Bulgarians aren't coming. Try to at least hold that thought.
A few thousand maybe. There's a hell of a difference.
Why does this discussion remind me of a Katie Melua song:
'There are 4 million Bulgarians in Belfast...' well, maybe not quite lol
the Chinese are in dire straights, their policy on one child per family has had serious repercussions, not least is the massive abortion rates. As to their economic boom, that has also come at a price, and unless you haven't been watching the news of late, their economy is slowing, which isn't surprising, no one goes through that much growth that quickly without many people losing out. This includes land being gobbled up across the country, land that was once for agricultural use, is now massive housing and business estates. The planet can't support the people we currently have, and if there is a bigger population boom not just in China, India, but other developing nations, watch out for the wars that follow, because resources will be very very scarce.
as to the statement that more immigration is needed, that is honestly a load of bilge.
Hahaha, that bloke Farage is very, very unwell, to put it mildly. A couple of poverty-stricken Bulgarians are parking a Porsche and a BMW in the street outside as I type. Bulgaria is top-of-list in terms of percentage of home ownership, EU-wide. Pubs, clubs and restaurants in Sofia are packed with people, regardless of the day of the week. Each bank holiday, well over 50 000 cars leave the country, to enjoy a couple of days in Thessaloniki or elsewhere. I also saw the heart-wrenching pictures in the Express - these are Gypsies (and no, not all Gypsies in BG live in penury, either). Almost 80% of Bulgarian youngsters graduate university. Shall I go on? What on earth would we seek in GB? Visit the museums to enjoy the glorious past of the once great Empire? Yes, the British museums and art galleries are fine. What would we find beyond that, though? Immigrate into a country that is struggling with its chavs and with its overly abundant multiculturalism as it is? God forbid!
To you that have an empty bedroom in your house, this could be your financial answer, let them in you miserable sods.
Would Bulgaria be in addition to Romania?
valeria, take it you won't be coming then..
When folk move they share the poverty around so we all approach the world average.
sounds like the land of milk and honey,

Her English is excellent!
just joined too, well i never.
Yes, indeed. And au fait with our politics too. Smart lady!
perhaps it's Nigel Farage sitting in a dingy cafe in Sofia, getting all disgruntled because no one has recognised him/
And yes a few Bulgarians can be as racist as anyone else. As we can see.
Pretty much what Valeria said, although I wouldn't mind, the Bulgarian girls like romanian girls are beautiful- plus you can always move there- they don't seem to mind us at all ;-)
Ichkeria, I see nothing racist in voicing concern that your country cannot support ever-increasing numbers of immigrants – nor in taking pride in your country, as Valeria appears to. Cries of racism are used all too often simply to stifle those with whom you disagree.
that is the word isn't it, racist, if one doesn't happen to agree with more people entering the country, you are a right wing racist. that there should be and should have been a cap on those coming here seems to have bypassed our politicians. It's one of the things i despise about people who chuck this word around, not really understanding real racism, or indeed any kind of ism.. like sexism, still exists in it's many insidious forms.
If you want to know the exact number coming,,
get the Labour party to set up a working? party to carefully study the question from every angle, give them a few years to check, double check & analyse the results. Now take the figure they arrive at,,,,,,,,,,

and multiply by 30. :-)
