Most Irish people have Shoota. Mother always did too even when living here. My new garden isn't suitable yet so all hens are with cousins nearby but in the country. The foxes aren't a problem because Dennis built the coop. And the electric fence works well..or at least it did when I was climbing it at the last party.
Neighbours rescue hens too so I do have some lovely phooy eggs. x
Mmmm I suppose....... I have kept hens most of my life. First thing I was shown many years ago was how to 'neck' them if needed, and how to clip their wings.
Ha ha I've done that Gness, and 'throw' them before you hold them for anything, so they don't sh*t on you, very handy if your trying to dust them or give them medicine. X
Not often I say this, but Crafty is wrong in this instance. Foxs do not kill just "for the sake of it" they kill all that they can, then take what they can carry and if undisturbed come back for the rest. It's the fact that their handiwork is discovered that leads to the myth that they kill for fun.
