Horsemeat - Is It The Thin End Of The Wedge

Daily, there are new revelations about the horsemeat scandal and it makes me wonder whether this is just the thin end of the wedge, and there are more disturbing revelations to come. I also wonder how long this has been going on.

A very big wedge I shouldn't wonder, bacon at 87% pork, chicken that you have to wring out before you can use it, water added to make it more succulent. I don't think this is a case of the customer licking his lips as much as it is the supermarkets rubbing their hands.

coming from a manufacturing background knowing how supply chains function and how easily traceability can be lost or manipulated nothing will surprise me. I buy "ready meals" along with ingredients for our own meals with the knowledge yku can never be sure of it's origins. People are very naive or like to be ignorant to facts of how "cheap" food is produced.

It kind of worries me. I did my online shop this evening, and found myself avoiding any beef products (Tesco) as I was concerned about the horsemeat situation.
I reckon there's a lot more to come :-(

we can only blame ourselves , we want the cheapest and the supermarkets tell us that they supply the cheapest and best. Now we find that they lied to us and our local butchers have closed down, we don't have a choice , buy the supermarkets produce or go without.

Captin K, my mater gets them from time to time and I noted today that Tescos have put their premium meals up to £7 from £5-50.....and only two months ago, they were £5.

Just because they know that folk who but Findus Ready Meals will continue to seek out ready meals, they wouldn't be, by chance, engaging in some profiteering, now would they?

Find a good local butcher its worth the few extra pennies and you can buy good beef and have him mince it for you while you watch. We have all unfortunately far too laid back and are willing to buy ready made or takeaways leaving ourselves open for exploitation, we can change that!

Ready meals are unhealthy packets of cack. The horsemeat is probably the only nutritional item in them.

30 years ago we had 3 butchers shops in the village , twenty years or so ago ASDA opened a supermarket 3 miles away, now we have only one left.

I think it has been going on for at least months,or more likedly years .
Think about it logically , just how much ' british beef' can there really be ?
We are a small country, even if the entire land area was given over to beef farming we could not produce enough to satisfy demand.

I don't think whether it's british beef or french is a problem as long as there is a degree of quality to it. The worrying aspect is what is becoming more apparent now in the amount of times the meat actually changes hands across different borders.

Surely the very act of eating a ready meal is a sign that the consumer isn't that concerned about what they digest.
