After the stories of a harold in America handing back a diamond ring, here in the UK we get this.

How wonderful it is to be in a country where this is allowed to happen.

Even if caught what sentence will he get, if any?

What an odd thing to say, do you judge the world by good or bad deeds done that week highlighted by the media?

Yes the Harold story was a warm one and yes the ring thievery is horrible but you do realize that good and bad deeds happen on both sides of the Atlantic and all over the world many times a second don't you? No one's keeping score except you it seems.

Do you honestly think that the ring being stolen was "Allowed to happen" as if the whole country was watching and knew about it but chose not to act on it? I think not.

What sentence will they get if caught? Well hopefully at least a year but as it's just theft or handling stolen goods if someone gets caught it will probably be community service and a fine.

One horrible incident does not condemn a society. There are probably many thousands of charitable acts a day that go unreported. As sad as this is, it does not condemn the UK any more than the story of the returned ring makes the US suddenly full of angels.

you can't deal with people on normal levels of common decency, you just have to believe that most people are not like that.

I agree Bazile, no passer by can, but the courts could do a lot more to deter it.
