/// During the investigation, which is likely to have cost taxpayers up to £100,000, Mr Loughton’s staff were also interviewed and hours were spent trawling through archives for evidence before it was abruptly dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service last month. ///

Was this MP being racist by referring to this troublesome constituent, as 'unkempt'.

It was only after the constituent explained that he was of Romany Gipsy descent that the racist accusation came into action.

Does this mean that this would have been deemed a lesser 'crime' if he had not been of a Romany Gipsy descent, and how was the MP to know this fact?

why ^^
NO
Blimey, imagine if they did introduce racially aggravated theft offences

Why em10?

Because its ridiculous!

It's like saying that Chinese take-aways overcharge white customers as payback for Britain's role in the opium wars.

It's a really weird mindset.

Really, really weird.

I'm sure that chaptazbru was at the very least, being ironic.
Please do not assume what I think sp.
sp you are thinking and speaking for someone else, also why
chaptazbru

I apologise for assuming what you think.

It's just that I've never, ever met anyone who justified burglary on that basis.

I'm a little astonished.

But everyone has different opinions I suppose.

So...err...just to get it straight, you think that a black burglar is 'paying white folk back' for past oppression.

Interesting point of view.

In answer to your question - I assumed chaptazbru was being tongue-in-cheek because (and I don't want to sound rude), it's such a 'way out' point of view.

///Would a black burglar who robs a white household be committing a racist crime?///
No, he'd be repaying them for 200 years of colonial oppression [i]

that i had no hand in this oppression, that clearer.
unlike you, i am not speaking for chapta, but i believe that is what she meant, which i why i put me too...
err (in your terminology) I didn't day that - Svejk did.

Thanks em, I know what I mean and you know what I mean and I am happy with that x
I was wondering when one of you would notice ^
are we in accord, x x
MT, notice what, you mean that is was svejk who said about the payback for oppression, i know, what i said was i personally had no hand in oppressing anyone, at any point in my life. fer funks sake.
Chapztaru, you tell-tale. :-)
ditto
ditto to em I mean.
this is the big problem with chat rooms, internet sites, much gets lost in translation and much gets misinterpreted -
Ahhh...this is all MY fault.

I was asking chaptazbru, when I should have directed my question to svejk who brought up the question of oppression in the first place.

Apologies to everyone for derailing and confusing!!!
