I must admit I had my doubts when I heard it on the news.

They have been searching for a cure for how long? They got to a point of being able to manage HIV so it didn't turn into aids, did you expect them to stop at that point?

What precisely is it that you find difficult ?
The report that one baby is still almost clear 12 months after receiving a high level anti virus drug. That's quite possible but there may be other reasons.
The only thing I find strange is that it is not part of a trial which would have involved several hundred babies . The report on one baby, even if accurate, is scientifically meaningless.

The hope that it might lead to a 'cure' . What's new in that ?
They have been saying that repeatedly for over 20 years , as they do for every virus.

The viral DNA is detectable but is not replicating -according to one report.

The case report is about vertical transmission (mother to child) which, if the mother is on anti-virals is very uncommon anyway

so yeah I find this hard to believe that the case has any relevance to us in the UK.

The Editors point that Bill has been throwing money at the issue is irrelevant.

I may have got this badly wrong and if so please forgive me.

The treatment of HIV in babies involves three antiviral drugs given consecutively........standard treatment in the UK and throughout the world.

However in this case all three antiviral drugs were given "at the same time."

That is what is innovative.

I may be mistaken.

It was an experiment and possibly it worked. I say good on the doctors for trying. Lets be hopeful for the sake of all the HIV infected.
