Labour takes a U-Turn on immigration, could it be because they were beaten into fourth place in the recent Eastleigh by-election?

/// 'As Ed Miliband has said we know Labour got some things wrong on immigration in Government.
We did tackle many of the serious problems in the asylum system we inherited after 1997. We also brought in stronger border checks,' she will
say. ///

Labour had thirteen years to get it right, but what they did during that time has put us in the difficult position that this country now finds itself in.

Not what Labour did, what the bankers did. Stop perpetuating the Tory myth to explain Osborne's incompetence.
>>>>Not what Labour did, what the bankers did.

What has what the bankers did got to do with immigration?

Or did you not bother to read the question and just saw somebody was having a go at Labour (quite rightly as they have admitted their own error on immigration) so decided to defend them.
I'm surprised that Nationally Labour are ahead in the polls, who would vote for them after what they did to this country?
Mind you, there's not a lot to choose from is there..a vote for any of the usual 3 pro-euro parties is a vote for more Brussels rule, more disaster, more of the same really....we're all doomed.

The Bankers had nothing to do with it, neither were they responsible for bringin the country to it's knees. Years over labour wanton spending did that.

If you dont believe that explain countries such as Canada and Australia?
/explain countries such as Canada and Australia? /

Massive natural resources being bought by China etc
Too late, and they know it, the damage they wanted done to this country has been well and truly done, its going to be one of their legacys.

This is now about votes , not about the country and its loss of identity
Canada and Australia had sensible banking controls

If you think it was Labours fault explain the US
By the way they're both wrong if they say limiting the number of skilled migrants isn't hurting the country.

It's hindering me and colleagues getting the best people over here and I can't believe I'm alone
/labour wanton spending did that/

I thought public spending had continued to rise under the current regime?
"I thought public spending had continued to rise under the current regime? "

and you think it wouldnt have under labour ?

you must live in a bubble of some sort.

labour would do as they always have done spend spend spend spend etc etc knowing that they never have to sort it out, just leave it to the next lot , then *** them off for not sorting out the countries finances that they themselves yet again as sure as day follows nigh have well and truly phucked up.

they only have one policy, and that is to spend, always have and always will, soak up all the unemployed and put em in the public sector and just spend spend spend.
/and you think it wouldnt have under labour ? /

You miss the point bazzer

Labour are (rightly or wrongly) criticised for uncontrolled, irresponsible spending

So if it was uncontrolled and irresponsible, why is the current regime also doing it? and more so?
"You miss the point bazzer"
i've not missed any point

current spending is nowhere near levels a labour government would have achieved
//By the way they're both wrong if they say limiting the number of skilled migrants isn't hurting the country. //

I thought Labour had admitted letting in too many unskilled immigrants was a mistake. The majority of the work force is semi/low or unskilled. That's a lot of displaced British workers that have been replaced by cheaper East Europeans. I am just one of those made redundant with little or no chance of finding work.
Am I fan of mass uncontrolled immigration?
Am I F***
I thought now the Politbureau were distancing themselves from previous Labour immigration policies, the only liberals we'd see on here today would be offering profuse apologies to AOG for the years of,obviously now, misguided abuse they've heaped on him.
/current spending is nowhere near levels a labour government would have achieved /

That's mere speculation

More to the point, the current regime promised to cut spending

But it continues to rise

How do you explain that?
Labour have now got a large client base, immigrants, welfare claimants and public sector workers. That is why they have a good chance of getting in next time. They are no longer the party of the traditional working population. Obviously the ones who take out more than they put in will always vote for the party who will give them even more. The answer is that only those who pay in through income or council tax should get a vote, that is the only fair way.

Let's get this right...

you would exclude from the democratic process anyone who is unemployed, disabled or long term sick on the basis that they aren't contributing?

And what other schemes do you have for hastening civil disrest and revolution?

Wonders will never cease, eh?
A party admits past errors in government, the Tories fail to curb public spending (again) and the Labour group on Grantham council is trying to have a statue to Thatcher erected in the town while the Tories are trying to stop them!
Blasted gay-marriage-supporting lefties :-)

What a good idea, just like any other organisation, club etc, only fully paid up members are allowed a vote on how that organisation/club should be run, and rightly so.

And before anyone says that retired persons do not earn an income, they because of their past contributions could become honourable members thus entitled to a vote.
Simple

a nation is not just /any other organisation, club etc,/

They often are to start with; the ancient Greek democracies only allowed certain classes to vote, once upon a time this country was ruled by a 'club' called the monarchy and aristocracy.

If you want to see what the 'only club members have a say' style of government gets you, take a look at Syria; or North Korea
