Sometimes the Daily Mail makes it too easy.

Hands up who can see the beautifully realised piece if irony in this latest Daily Mail attack on the BBC:

Big thanks to The Media Blog for highlighting this.

Brilliant.

I still cannot see what's wrong with saying those words. They were invented as descriptive words. Replacing such words still conjure up the image those said words represents.
Isn't the 'N' word a legitimate word for dark brown/black?
i guess because of the way it's used, calling someone a black bstard wouldn't be acceptable would it, and nor is n****r. The history behind the word rather gives it away why it's so taboo.
Banning or censoring words is stupid. People say 'the N word', but everyone knows what they're talking about. Ridiculous!

By the way, what happened to Elvis Costello? Is he still around?
a friends father had a dog called n****er because of it's colouring chocolate, dark brown.
he is still around, can't say i ever liked his music much
The problem is not the word. It's how it's used.
Not really, Ummmm. There's been some controversy about Douglas Bader’s dog of that name. It seems its acceptability depends upon WHOM is using it rather than the context in which it is used.
wasn't it Guy Gibsons dog called N****er...
it was, however don't know if Douglas Bader had the same dog, or another called that...
Yes, you're right, Em. Sorry, my mistake. The same applies though.
i thought they were going to do a remake, and that the dog's name was going to be changed..
A quick google brought up the new name 'Nigsy' for the remake, but I didn't look at loads of sites so don't know if that's right.
that is just pandering i am afraid, considering that every blaxploitation film that ever was always used n****er.. superfly, shaft, Jackie Brown all films aimed more or less at black filmgoers.
Yes, indeed, but logically how daft!
i think the "white ***" in the lyrics is a reference to the Irish Catholics

Okay...we've slid away from m original point, which is that it is highly ironic that the Daily Mail have attacked the BBC over censoring the word, when it censors it itself.

With regard to the word and whether it should be censored. It causes offence, so of course it should.

Hands up who would find it acceptable for Blue Peter presenters to pepper their delivery with swear words?

What about the use of c***, f*** and w***** on News At Ten?

Are people happy with some offensive words, but not others?

AOG - what swear words are you happy with children using?

i think that some words shouldn't be in use, but they are, i don't like the word n****er, i am offended by it, however i am also offended by the word c*** which i have heard in tv programmes, some well before the watershed

If you are talking about the record then no it shouldn't.
Either play it or don't.............don't interfere with record itself.

I see that the Telegraph was brave enough to use the word.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/history/world-war-two/8863954/Guy-Gibson-ghost-of-Dambusters-dog-found-at-airbase.html

I always thought that *** was buried outside the gates of Scampton Air base, if it had a head stone engraved with the dog's name, I wonder if the PC brigade have since scrubbed it out?

Wasn't the word used to describe someone coming from Niger?
