the british and their moaning

Is it just me or are people moaning more and more about the weather, regardless of what it is.
It used to be that snow was fun � everyone loved a day off school or work, playing in the snow, getting the sledges out.  But when that snow fell earlier this year all people talked about was the inconvenience it caused and the cost of it all and how badly prepared for it we are. 
Then the sun came out, along with warnings of skin cancer, hosepipe bans, old people dieing.  Then the storms where apparently 5 people died from being struck by lightning last year � a 5 in 60 million chance?  I think for the most part we needn't worry and should enjoy the incredible spectacle that nature puts on for us. 
Then the rain, oh god the rain, with the floods, again the cost to people, how bad it all is.
I know we are on the whole a nation of moaners, but does anyone else feel like people are always moaning about how difficult life is these days instead of just getting on with it and enjoying your life?  And its not just the weather�but I'll save that rant for another day!

I think you are quite right pagey. Life is much easier for us now than it has been for generations before and we are taking more things for granted. Therefore when things aren�t perfect we always look for someone or something to blame. I spent 7 months listening to people moaning about the grim weather over winter. Those same people lasted about half a day in the sun before saying it�s too hot, and then go on about how great �abroad� is because the one thing you can guarantee is the sunshine. As someone once said, �there�s no such thing as bad weather, only wrong clothes�

I totally agree!! Throughout winter people complain and pray for some sun, then when the sun does come out people complain it's too bloody hot! Hello??!! People should learn to accept that the planet is changing and the weather's gonna change with it. I still love the snow - if it's cold then wrap up and warm. If it's hot,- get in the shade - just get on with it! Aaarggghh, I'm getting stressed now so I'm gonna go!!

That last quote is so true Glossopswift. There's no reason for anyone to be too cold or too hot, you just adapt! No matter what happens people will always find something to complain about.

Ha ha sorry for starting you on a rant Rocca - I had to be careful on my post not to get into a full on rant about this all too!  And don't even get me started on this 'blame' culture we seem to be developing glossopswift!! I fully agree that so much we have is taken for granted, and the slightest inconvenience in our lives, a lot people start looking to place blame and receive compensation for it.  grrrr!

ha ha yeah you're right octavia I am moaning as much as those I'm moaning about - I am english after all!  But sometimes its good to have a rant!

Don't belittle people who, due to flooding in January in Carlisle thousands of people lost personal posessions, 2 people died, some are still not recovered, their houses unfit to live in, worries of cost, upheaval, relocation of family to find accommodation. It has happened elsewhere too like Boscombe, Cornwall etc. If it happens to you then see how much you want to moan!  Gossopswift you are out of order on your last comment.

Dagman, I would have thought it obvious that I am not referring to extreme weather conditions that endanger people�s lives and their well being.  I am taking about day to day weather that whatever it is seems to cause problems for people!  I am pretty sure there were no flash floods in boscombe because I live there.

kingaroo that's a very good point!  I still love jumping in puddles and making snow angels but I guess as we get older we have more to deal with in everyday life so things like that do somewhat lose their appeal

Im 28 but I still love building snowmen and sledging with my daughters and I love paddling in kids pool in garden in the summer!! I dont like having to deal with the things that weather throws at us flashfloods snow storms drought etc etc  but if we worried to much about these things life wouldnt be worth living!! I feel for the people that are affected by serious weather conditions but people that moan about everyday weather get on my tits!! enjoy it and quit moaning!!

Tch! tch! people.  You ought to know that the weather is a marvellous "cover" , a "safe" subject for the sort of conversation you can have with relative strangers in shops or at bus-stops.  Nice and impersonal.  You would think someone a bit strange if they said "what a lovely flash flood -  I wish we could have more of those", true, but at least they would be sticking to the socially acceptable line.  (Does anyone remember Tony Hancock asking "is it raining in Tokyo?" ?) It's no good admitting a liking for something.  That wouldn't be good conversation!
