it's a shame people don't broaden their work experience like this before becoming MPs in the first place; it'd make for better prepared politicians than the usual jobs in law and PR. Presumably it'd be quite a while before he could get back in parliament, should he wish to; but I rather like him myself.

He is a real waste of space, I honestly think his leadership has let the party down he is not a natural leader. Perhaps his spell in the Big Apple with lead to a film version of Wallace and Gromit blockbuster films with Ed Balls as Gromit.

I've not much time for him but I cannot blame him sulking somewhat. He lost the leadership election to Mr Ed courtesy of fourth choice votes thanks to the ridiculous voting system used. I think I'd be a bit peeved if I'd lost an election on that basis.

so David goes to NY to work for a charity, why doesn't he stay here and work for one, or is it he is hoping it's a stepping stone to bigger and greater things on the worlds stage, he would in my opinion have made a better leader than his brother Ed, then again NJ has it right, a rather idiot based voting system done for him..

Let's not lose sight of the fact that Cameron became Tory leader simply because the backwoodsmen and blue-rinsed ladies of the shires were wildly impresssed by his ability to make a speech without notes. Apparently, they were unaware that jobbing actors the length and breadth of the land manage to do just that almost every evening of the week! Until that 'achievement' emerged, David Davies was a shoo-in. From what I hear from Tories nowadays, few of them are too happy with the choice they DID make!

It's good to see, Em, that you've finally dropped your beloved "knife-in-the-back" scenario and grasped that the Labour electoral system was precisely what I told you it was and that both brothers knew perfectly well what that system was. Well done!

Given that David Miliband has shown not the slightest tendency to emulate the Ted Heath attitude to another's success, what evidence exists of his being a 'sulk'?

qm, still think that most people including David expected to take the job, and that his brother who wasn't seen, certainly initially as a contender for the role nicked it, stabbed in the back, or just going for the main chance. Makes no odds now the reason, he has the job and will god help up probably be the next PM

i don't like either of them, so really don't care whether it's a sulk or just that he has no chance of any role in the next government so has pushed off the scene. As to Cameron, well he has proved himself to be a somewhat better leader, however he won't i expect be the PM in two years time

It was said on the Today program earlier this morning, that David was going to America, "in order not to steal the limelight from his brother Ed"

I'm not how this can possibly be true. I can't remember the last time David was even mentioned in the media, let alone being in danger of stealing anybody's light.

The only reason we are talking about him this morning is because he is going to the States. 24-48 hours later this week it just as likely that he won't be mentioned again until he does something different again.

Does it really matter. You only have one life and if he feels his would be more enjoyable doing that then he must follow his instinct.

Odd a lefty wants to live in the States though. Would have though Russia or China more his cup of tea.
