The UK? Attacked? By Korea? Get real. Yes they have a massive army, but compared to NATO in both men and equipment they would have no chance of getting anywhere near Europe..
The might be able to attack us.....gangnam style.
first sign of aggression won't be to UK, we are piddling. Besides the US won't be sitting on their rear ends waiting for someone to press a button.
>could we defend ourselves now that cameron and co have made so many cuts, to our armed forces.???
Well, a lot better than if those who wanted to get rid of Trident got their way
Yes we can can defend ourselves with nuclear missiles
We are out of range anyway, and also any strike would have to pass through either the US or China and Russia and the rest of Europe. No danger to us directly at the moment.

If miraculously the entire North Korean army did manage to get to us and land on our shores, then frankly worrying about Cameron's cuts would be the last thing on our mind. Even before those cuts there probably wouldn't be enough to stop such a large army. The only reason this isn't frightening at all is because it's also never going to happen. No way the NK army will be able to get here, or even in a position to be able to land.
jim, not so much here, but they could decide to have a go at their neighbours, others weigh in then here we go.
Redvanman, just how can we defend ourselves with nuclear missiles?

Everyone knows we would never fire them, so they are a complete waste of money.
Cameron is suggesting we spend £20bn on a new version of trident. This is not a defensive weapon and if we ever attempted to use it would lead to self destruction.

If we were really worried about defending our country we would have more of the new missile defence systems to shoot down any incoming missiles and the cost would be far less.

Anyway what has the average North Korean done to us they just want to go about their business. Sending them one of our Trident missiles just depletes their population. Wouldn't a better solution be to send targeted drones to wipe out the leaders?
the idea is the deterrent, knowing we have them, isn't that how it's been portrayed over the years, that having these weapons has kept the peace......
Not sure deter ants work if there is a nutter on the other side.

We dont have anything directly to fear here, but we should fear world instability and a severe economic turn-down if it happens.

One wonders if that is what the mad boy has in mind.
I'm sort of with YMB on this - deterrents only work if everyone involved is thinking logically. And it's not clear that the North Koreans are doing that.

I've never liked Nuclear weapons anyway, but maybe they did help keep the peace after all. We'll never really know how much difference they made in the past. But in the Cold War at least, the leaders of both sides seemed desperate to avert catastrophe.
Well let's just hope he doesn't follow through, or it will be messy for all of us.
