The Mail has accused Neil Kinnock of snubbing Margaret Thatcher to go to a fulneral of an ex-collleague that he previously accepted an invitation to go to.

Personally that seems low even for the Mail

I certainly wouldn't cancel such an arrangement because I'd had an invitation to a more important fulneral, even someone I greatly admired

Is that just me?

If you'd agreed to go to another fulneral would you cancel for someone more important?

no, but why would he go anyway, that weren't best buddy's were they, irrespective of what he does for a living now.
I have my priorities right. No chance.
It would be a coincidence to be invited to 2 funerals on the same day and an even greater one if they were both at the same time.
If they are not too far apart, go to both, the advantages being: you offend nobody, you keep a clear conscience, and you only need dress funereally once.
the distance from Newbridge, South Wales, to Westminster might prove a bit daunting
I do not see why Kinnock or anyone else needs to give reasons for what they may be doing on Wednesday. I'm mdisappointed that BBC are taking off Homes Under the Hammer to cover that damn funeral. That Maggie woman is and was a nuisance.
If it is a coincidence, then he should go to the funeral of his friend and one-time co-worker. He owes Maggie nothing.

But you know, coincidences happen, 99 times out of a hundred.. :)

If it was not a coincidence and he does not want to participate in the pomp of what amounts to a faux- state funeral, that is also entirely within his right, and i would not blame him for a second. If it irritates the tories and the maggie fans, so be it- he can hardly irritate them more...

Remember jno, Kinnock and his wife are millionaires, - 1 hour max.

No, I wouldn't. It woudl be extremely bad manners.

Mind you, so is dancing on someones grave so I guess all lefties would go to the best one?
i don't care if he goes or not, as i said before they weren't close, i would say there was a deal of enmity between then, irrespective of having another funeral to go to. Same can be said of anyone, if it was someone i didn't like, care about, why would i go.
Perhaps Kinnock, like many many thousands, does not consider Magggie worth all the fuss. She does appear to making lots of waves in death as she did when alive.

Lord Kinnock's office said he had already accepted an invitation to the funeral of former Labour councillor Olga Griffiths.

A spokeswoman said: "He will not be attending because a councillor in his old constituency died a few days before Lady Thatcher.

"He promised he would go to the funeral. He will be in Wales."

I notice that you have conveniently failed provided a link to your criticism of the Daily Mail, so I will do so.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2307374/Margaret-Thatcher-funeral-Dame-Shirley-Bassey-Jeremy-Clarkson-attend-Neil-Kinnock-to.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

/// Neil Kinnock today snubbed an invite to Baroness Thatcher's funeral. ///

/// The former Labour leader has instead chosen to attend a memorial service for a former councillor in Wales next Wednesday. ///

/// 'He will not be attending because a councillor in his old constituency died a few days before Lady Thatcher. He promised he would go to the funeral,' his spokesman said. ///

Nothing there to be ashamed of, except for the first line, to those of a more sensitive nature.

Snubbed meaning : to ignore, or behave coldly towards, slight, to dismiss, turn down, or frustrate the expectations of.

snags, perhpas NK can go to the friends funeral, then go to MT's wake for the sandwiches?
sir.prize, my dog is also disappointed about homes under the hammer - it's his favourite program
This whole issue is stupid. If it's important that Kinnock should go to St Pau's why don't they re-arrange Maggie's funeral for Thursday?
if the question is // If you'd agreed to go to another funeral would you cancel for someone more important?// the answer is yes of course -if I was invited to an acquaintance's funeral then a close relative died then of course I would decline the first invitation to pay my respects to someone who was personally more important to me.

If the question is 'would you cancel a funeral invitation to attend margaret thatchers funeral ' then it would be NO - not unless I knew her personally socially or professionally then I would have to make a decision based on who the other deceased person was -as I'm sure Mr. Kinnock has done.(anyone know a good technique for getting large tongue out of small cheek....)
Lord Kinnock will no doubt be more welcome in Wales than surrounded by Dizzy Dave's mod.
No I wouldn't. It would be bad manners of Neil Kinnock to turn round and say he wasn't coming to his colleague's funeral and going to St Pauls instead. I don't think it's anybody's business but his what he decides and certainly not a snub.
By the way jake, I have to point out that funeral is spelt funeral.
I don't know why I have to, I just do!
Of course it would be rude to cancel attending the funeral in Wales. But I bet Kinnock is breathing a big sigh of relief. It would have been extremely bad manners to not attend Mrs Thatcher's funeral but Kinnock must be thinking "It should have been me. I would have been Prime Minister if it wasn't for Thatcher" Bad losers. Bad politicians. Not nice people really.
I don't know why anyone who has been invited can't simply just decline the invitation without having to justify themselves or have in the newspaper.
