when/how did mark thatcher become a ''sir '' ?
Mark Thatcher must be a "Sir" because his father was made baronet, a hereditary knight, instead of the usual kind of knight, and Mark therefore became Sir Mark on his father's death. Can't think that Mark was made a knight on his own merit
^ditto
so will mark thatchers son inherit the 'sir' when he dies . ?
Yes, anne. Holders of baronetcies are shown by Bt after their name: Sir Denis Thatcher Bt etc. There are still quite a few about, several generations after the original holder's demise.
Just for info;
Thatcher is entitled the usage of the pre-nominal style "The Honourable" following the elevation of his mother to the peerage as a baroness in 1992; he shares this courtesy with his twin sister, Carol. He inherited the Thatcher baronetcy on the death of his father, Sir Denis, in 2003. The baronetcy, created in 1991 for Sir Denis, was the first (and so far only) baronetcy created since 1964.
a bit like ( keeping it in the family ) then ? :(

mikey4444 - yes we all know about Operation Yewtree; Jim Davidson remains innocent, nothing has been proven.

However Jeffrey Archer, Jonathan Aitken and indeed Neil Hamilton. What a trio - I am sure they will be attending the fun.

Sorry, funeral.
She did the best she could, anne. She became baroness but the practice has been that the son of a baroness, countess etc does not inherit the title of baron, earl etc. So the only way to give a hereditary title to the family was to give one to her husband. He could have been given a higher title, as the former Speaker,George Thomas, who became Viscount Tonypandy, was, but that would mean he held a title of her higher rank than hers. And the idea of having Mark a Viscount certainly would not appeal. Viscount Tonypandy had no heir , so succession did not present a potential embarrassment nor was there the prospect of his descendants being eligible to sit in the House of Lords.

(Clement Attlee was made an Earl. That does seem odd, considering he was a Labour Prime Minister and Churchill had refused to be elevated to the peerage).

Sir-prize, Davidson is a proven wife beater though.
should he have been?
Seeing as he admitted beating Alison holloway I would say yes.

doctorb - has Jim Davidson been convicted in a court? Are your claims relevant to Maggie Thatcher's funeral?

The newspapers love having a pop. Even the Guardian claims: Comedian is re-arrested in connection with Operation Yewtree,

Rubbish.

The latest arrest of comedian Jim Davidson is deeply confusing. Yewtree is about child abuse, isn’t it? After all, it was set up as a direct result of the Savile revelations. When Yewtree swoops, and celebrity after celebrity has been targeted by them, we assume that they have uncovered yet more sexual abuse of children.

But it turns out that Jim Davidson has not been accused of abusing any children. He is defending himself against historic accusations brought by two women who were in their twenties at the time. He is of course innocent unless he is proved guilty, and he vigorously denies the accusations. But the danger is that he is now tainted, and will be for ever. And the taint is the false implication that he was somehow involved with the Savile crimes against children.
Who would want to go anyway?
At least C & P the whole quote Jordy, it takes on a new meaning without the first word which was can't as I'm sure you realise.

///Can't think that Mark was made a knight on his own merit///

I'm off to the dentist on Wednesday and you have to sort out your paviors, needawin. So that's two who won't be there.
Sir.prize. I'll say it again, Davidson 'admitted' beating Alison holloway.

My point (not claim) is relevant to a thread by you titled 'Jim Davidson'
Question Author
doctordb - you seem to be uncertain now. You have quoted 'admitted'. Does that mean he may have done or didn't?
No uncertainty. He did it as he himself has said.
