I have no idea. Caught part of this story on News 24 earlier. It is unclear to me why he only received a 10 month detention for the previous assault, or why he was not put on the sex offenders register.
You cannot blame the girl or her family if they were to blame the justice system for contributing to what she had to go through. This guy really should be locked away.
And I know that a defendants past history is often not related to the court on the grounds that it might prejudice the courts findings - but where such a past history points to a history of the type of offence that they are currently being tried for, it seems to me it probably should be made available....

Yet another extremely serious dangerous sexual predator given a ridiculously short custodial sentence for a very serious crime and goes on to re-offend in a crime that could have been prevented.

According to the media, previous history was disclosed during this trial.

But during the trial the jury was also told that he had pleaded guilty to previously sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in 2011.

I don't know why he wasn't on the sex offenders register. Under 18s can be placed on it and the offence he was convicted of was one covered by the act.
Looks like they will be investigating why it did not happen, however I doubt that would have prevented this attack.
I am surprised that after having been prosecuted for sexual assault a community service order was thought appropriate for having 600 indecent images of children a year later.
I notice that possession of sexual images of children is an 'either way' offense which makes me think perhaps such cases should not be entrusted to magistrates as this one was

Ta LG, No probs, law of evidence is a complex subject.
Jake, when I say that this crime 'could' have prevented I am referring to the fact that the first sentence should have been proportionate to the offence and one would have hoped he would have still been detained. It's about time some one sued the MoJ for neglect and failure to provide a duty of care.
