If I was one of you europhiles I'd take some indigestion tablets before reading the article and have your blood pressure meds on standby

Normo Tebbs' blog is hardly going to be a manifesto for European unity.

As for bringing tears to the eyes, well it was amusing but not THAT funny :-)

He hits the nail right on the head; as usual.

Expect to see the left on this site resort to name calling - as they wont really have much argument.
I can't quite understand why anyone would look up to a country that shows such flagrant disregard for the rules of a club it's in. The French should just leave if that's really how they feel, rather than being dishonest and cherry-picking so much.

It was an important read even so, I didn't realise quite how tiny the margin on that decision was.
well, you have a majority or you don't jim. It could have been a one-man majority the other way, but it wasn't. The whole government is elected on majorities big or small
i thought wait a mo he's dead, then i looked at the picture, you didn't mean the gung ho commander, but one of Mrs T boys. I always liked him, his no nonsense approach was right for the time he was in office.
i like this comment

There is an alternative policy. Let us govern ourselves. We did it quite well for a long time.
True, jno - usually surprisingly small.
Someone who wants political advertising on our television Screens (Do we want that?) challenged the UK laws that forbids it at the ECHR. Not sure why Tebbit coyly says a charity have been denied airtime, failing to mention they wanted to show political ads?

Anyhow, he EHCR came down on our side of the UK Government, that our laws banning Political advertising did not break any rights to free speech which is a Human Right.

The UK signed up to ECHR long ago so they are of course the right court to hear this challenge to our law banning political advertising on TV.

Churchill signed us up to the European Convention on Human Rights
Heath got us in the EEC
Tebbit supported the Single European Act.

While he was a Cabinet Minister he could have pushed for the withdrawal of the UK from Europe (and the ECHR) but didn't.

The ECHR are the right Court to hear this and this is the right Decision.
- They have support UK laws and said they do not deny free speech.
- They have supported our ban on Political Advertising on TV

So I can't really see what the Tebbit / baz / ymb are bleating about.
C'est une orage dans une tasse au thé. Mes yeux sont assez seche comme normale et je n'ai pas maux d'estomac.
// they didn't want us in //

They voted unanimously for our application to join in 1969.
Us or our money?, cannot decide.
Yawn!

//Socialism and the allied doctrines of the Left regard property as belonging to "the community"//

Yes you can tell that by all the Nationalisation that happened under Tony Blair's decade in power.

The man has no power, no influence and no importance

If he did he wouldn't be bleating to the choir in the Telegraph.

He's also somewhat vain using that old photograph of him as opposed to something a bit more recent!

Yesterday's man
Stormin' Norman?

I always knew him as the Chingford Skinhead, back in the day.
that was earlier that 69 and indeed it was De Gaulle who kept us out, the same man who fled to Britain during WW2.
Norman Tebbitt: Jeremy Clarkson without the funny bits.
// that was earlier that 69 and indeed it was De Gaulle who kept us out, the same man who fled to Britain during WW2. //

And when the French voted De Gualle out, they voted FOR our application to join the EEC.
