You read around on the internet and even some of my friends you see getting stroppy, sulky and upset or angry and outraged by comments made on the internet and really taking it to heart but you're like HELLO this ain't the real world and once close your laptop this world ends and real world begins or use on of the other hundred billion sites out there that doesn't inflame your rage or reduce you to a sulky tearful mess but it seems that some people are just too sensitive or angry for the internet! I've seen arguments, fights and just last week seen a girl get slapped up and had her extensions pulled out of her head because of something said on facebook.

Should there be some kind of sensitivity and anger test taken before being allowed to use the net?

It gets to you that's for sure....it's a world in the ether and emotions can still be the same as in the real world. In fact probably even more so with the written word being so evocative and stirring people's imagination.

Silly to suggest a sensitivity/anger test taken before use of the internet...we are still human (beans) despite it being in the ether....we still have emotions and can definitely react to the written word.

I say enjoy it for what it is, don't take it too seriously and step away if you feel you cannot cope with intensity that often comes across in certain sites and situations.

I love it...I love my computer but I also know it's a whole different situation from real life...more intense I would say.
it is only pixels after all :o
Anne, the "its only pixels" thing never really did hold water, try getting out of a contract by claiming "but judge, its only ink" Pixels are no different than ink or any other writing medium, the courts certainly think that way anyway. Im sure the Newspapers would get away with murder claiming "it was only ink"

I think we can all feel upset and hurt when people we know insult or are mean to us, no matter whether it is in ink or pixels.

If it is from people we dont know, then I agree, just forget about it, its hardly going to be personal if they dont even know who you are.
IMHO^^
Ratter, I was referring to people we don't know....... IMHO :0
Anne its only pixels is it!!

Well OK lets see how you would feel at some of the stuff that has been written on the internet was aimed at you!
^^ shut up you minger!! ;-)) xx
Of course, there's much more to the internet than Facebook, despite what Zuckerberg and co try to make you think.
FGT, I think we have all had a taste of it over the years through AB haven't we Anne, I know I have.
yes RATTER, but as these people are of no consequence to our lives, that's when its pixels. hi to cara.
I have had the most awful things aimed at me Ratter. By people that some on here think are angels!
Hi anne love! Hugs! xxx
I know what you mean, most of the stuff said to me on here noone i come across in the real world would ever consider saying!
I think for the youngsters its a way of life and they need to spell every aspect of their life online. Though when older you realise its a load of old tosh and in the real world it not matters a jot.
It's not only pixels when they write your work.
I only use my Facebook to promote myself and keep in touch with people who might give me work etc, I'd never use it to speak to family or friends too many rows on Facebook, I have skype for family.
I do ponder the worth of social networking most of the time.

For every erudite individual who has something of interest to say, there are millions of gossiping trolls causing mayhem around the place with rumour and malice.

I personally don't indulge in Twitter or Facebook, - it is probably a generational thing, but I lack the time or the inclination to provide the minutia of my life to total strangers. Why would anyone care? Why would I care about theirs? They wouldn't. I don't.
I think it should be taken seriously. The internet is just the easy and current way of doing it. It's just as nasty as it always was when in the past it may have been done by letter, text, down the pub, passing notes round class, bullying in the playground etc. It's just easier to be vicious without getting off the sofa to do it.
I can't see taking a test would help at all. Better to try and avoid the sites that inflame you too much. But that is easier said than done . I think the internet is like a drug to some people. And as to Facebook. This has been insidiously drawing members in like a spiders web catches flies. The more information that people put out about themselves the better the advertisers love it. They know from scouring the site just who to target and with what products. Nothing is for free and it won't be long before you are being charged for all manner of things.People should really try to be careful just how much personal information they put online. Remember --it's out there for everyone in the world to see.
