Well....I am not an expert on olive oil.......but, i use a lot of olive oil on tomato bread at breakfast and liberally over salads.

There are various grades of olive, various prices and one can be easily conned.

Almost 700 people died, it is believed, as a consequence of consuming rapeseed (canola) oil adulterated with aniline intended for use as an industrial lubricant, but sold in 1981 as olive oil in Spain (see toxic oil syndrome).

I suppose, that with this new EU directive, one can be as sure as possible, that you are getting what the label says.

I presume by getting rid of the oil at the table, they will have to get rid of the little bottles of balsamic as well. The server will have to make up the dipping dish at the table. It`s not the end of the world, I suppose.

In a question earlier this week I gave a few reasons why I had no liking for the EU. This can be added to my list.

There is no earthly reason why the EU should dictate to member states whether or not they allow olive oil jugs on restaurant tables. As far as I am aware there is no common health or hygiene regulations, but if there are there should not be. It should be entirely a matter for individual nations to determine such matters.

Regardless of what you think of the EU, you cannot possibly compare it to the USSR and expect to be taken seriously.

Those who change the EU are often ignored. Those who challenged the USSR were sent off to gulags, where you either starved, froze or worked to death.
