sounds good - but on the basis that it will be incredibly difficult to enforce, isn't this just a case of distraction politics?

the friend who drives us up to seascale a couple of times a year blissfully remains in the middle lane all the way from standish to when we get off the M6 at levens, it is amusing really because she's been driving 40 years the same as myself but never changes. Admittedly it is always a saturday or sunday when it is relativel,y quiet but when we have travelled back mis week she still sticks to her M.O. lol
If there's anything worse than tailgating, it's idiots sticking to the middle lane -I think every offender should have a refresher course on correct motorway driving. I passed a car stationary on the hard shoulder the other day, indicating to pull out and waiting for a break in the traffic, instead of driving along the hard shoulder to build up speed and then pulling out when it was clear.
I take it you have read the debate above tizzie.
"I passed a car stationary on the hard shoulder the other day, indicating to pull out and waiting for a break in the traffic, instead of driving along the hard shoulder to build up speed and then pulling out when it was clear. "

very good, what has that got to do with the subject of this post?
Tell me where you got you ideas from TTT because I cannot believe that was what you were taught when learning to drive.
what if you're sat in the middle lane doing 70mph? theoritcally nothing should be going past you anyway.
Maybe the time has come for all learner drivers to have compulsory motorway driving instruction after passing the test. I realise that may be difficult for drivers without a motorway near where they live but going on a motorway for the first time must be daunting for a lot of new drivers.

My granddaughter past her driving test recently and her instructor suggested she have motorway driving experience. She had a couple of additional lessons with him on the motorway - M6 between Coventry & Birmingham - and I'm sure she is more confident to use them that she otherwise would be.

Then you get an on the spot fine as per the article, because you shouldn't be.
Booldawg
In theory that's true, but if the left hand lane is empty then your middle lane hogging.
Experience shoota, we learn initially then we galvanise with experience. How many things where you taught at school that you now don't believe or perhaps you found a better way. No one teaches you to drive anyway, they teach you to pass a test, you learn to drive after that.
Ah, experience.
TTT you are, as mentioned earlier, deluded and dangerously so.
You should drive in the left hand lane if it is clear, you should not 'hog' the middle.
It is not permissable to pass/undertake/overtake a car travelling in the middle lane in any circumstances other than when in a 'traaffic jam' scenario. (Emergencies excepted of course.)
My experience?
I was a Police class1 advanced driver, trained at the Met's driving school.
98% in the theory exam, 96% in the practical test. Trained on motorways and with experience of policing motorways.
Should anyone else read this whilst googling please do not follow the reasoning of TTT because he is wrong.
good for you, shoota, follow the shepard if you feel you must, I prefer to do some independent thinking.

I'm not dangerous, I have never had an insurance claim or an accident. Someone hit me up the jaxy once at lights, that's it. How's your accident record?
People keep trotting out the standard brainwashed middle lane mantra but can someone, shoota, perhaps explain why it is bad.
The worst offenders of middle lane hogging are lorry drivers attempting to crawl past another lorry at a fractional speed difference. Quite often the lorry in the middle lane ends up going slower due to losing the slipstream.
That is irrelevant TTT we are debating the law and highway code here which, great as your 'independant thinking' may be, takes precedence.
Most of the HC is not law. But I'll play along. So you agree with all the laws in the country then do you?
Here we go-2-3-4.........
All the reasons you need atre listed in the highway code and legislation. I suggest you do some revision.
You are blustering now TTT.
Just amend your driving practices and avoid a fixed penalty notice.
