Is it now wrong to still cherish our way of life?

/// But steadily over the past six decades — particularly in the past 15 years or so — those aspects of Britishness and key institutions have all too often been insulted, rebuffed, ridiculed, despised, attacked and, to all intents and purposes, destroyed. ///

How very true, but not just by politicians.

very droll, Corby, and I agree with you.
as children we certainly seemed have a deal more freedom, played out more, long before the age of computers so we made our own entertainment, in our little cliques of friends and family we roamed the neighbourhood played at the adventure playground, skittles, marbles, jacks, all played outside, hopscotch too and any game someone could come up with. Karting down the hill on an orange box and pram wheels, no brakes, or roller skating, this isn't rosy coloured memories, but they were good.
The difference being traffic.

When I was a child in the 70's there were only about 3 or 4 cars parked in our street. A car might drive down our street about once every hour.
