Ryan Air - Taking The Proverbial!

I'm generally a supporter of Ryan air, going with the view that their extra charges are all avoidable. However this is definately a new level in exploitation!

That's a bit like saying that the mines in a minefield are avoidable.
If you try to book online, the process is so convoluted that it's pretty obviously designed deliberately to trip you up, so that they can then rip you off.
I always fly EasyJet. It may cost a little more in theory, but at least I know exactly what the cost is, and I don't get the impression that I'm dealing with the enemy.

Certainly is. How did they arrive at £70 ? Why not £100 or £30 ? It must be questionable on the basis that it's an unfair contract term, but nobody imagines that Ryanair's boss will care. He'd only react if the authorities barred Ryanair from flying because of it, or penalized the company so much that it was no longer profitable to have the rule.
I've booked with Ryanair a few times in the past year and you can avoid extra charges. I only pay for the flight, which does have extras added to it, but those are unavoidable, see below. I must admit it is a bit of a minefield if you're not careful when booking as they put all sorts of things which you need to opt in/out of, but I've not had a problem yet.
