I have seen this on the BBC website this morning ::

Did the school handle this is in the best way ? It seems to me that common sense went out the window when this young boy wanted his lunch. Yet the school seems to be entirely unfazed.

"Mr and Mrs Lynn were notified on three occasions prior to the mealtime of interest that their debt was due and that their son would not receive a meal if the debt remained unpaid."

Should have paid the debt on being asked the first time, Parents fault child had to hungry.
Father says he wasn't told., so who do you believe? A concerned father or an a money gubbing "account" manager.

3 times so the debt was run up to £1.75 over those 3 times or the child hadn't been eating, or the debt was actualy one day old and the father was told 3 times in a day.
how to thoroughly embarrass your 11 year old child.
parents are dipsticks.

Once, both sons went to school without lunch money, my fault. Phoned the school and paid the following day.
This has happened to my son, I'll tell you how 'stupid' a parent can be. At our school , and probably this one, they use Parentmail where you can top up your dinner account via debit card. I put £20 on at a time which usually lasts around 8-10 meals. I was very stressed one monday morning, thought I'd topped up the account the week before so just left it. Son came in at teatime said he had no dinner because he had no money on his account. I phoned school livid they said if he's come nito the office they would have put an overdraft on his account to see him through one meal. We got it resolved and I learned a lesson. It was different in Primary school as you paid weekly. At Senior school they use biometrics so if no money in account no food.
Had you been telt about the debt three times in advance of the event, no doubt you would have paid. Unfortunately, neither parent bothered to pay the money and their son went hungry.
I agree corbyloon. probably a case of 'I'm a Governor so rules don't apply' situation. Still, the child should have been given a dinner, that's unacceptable.
