Anybody Remember This Poor Starving Dog Who Was Abandoned One Freezing ...

cold night in Littlehampton by two women? They were caught on CCTV leaving him to his fate outside a hotel in December last year. Here is the report in the paper of it at the time.

Broke my heart when I read it and I searched for more information after I heard he was sent to the RSPCA in Brighton. I even looked a few weeks later to see if he was up for rehoming. I remember they called him Hero. Well, this afternoon, I met a lovely girl I know who works at the RSPCA and I asked her about him. She remembered him immediately and told me he didn't make it. He lived for two weeks after they got him, but they had never ever seen such an emaciated dog and said his poor head was just skull. But he had a wee bit of happiness, he relished his food and his tail wagged a lot but they couldn't stop his diarrhoea and in the end his organs just closed down. He died in his sleep after two weeks so the decision was made for them in the end. The utter dregs of the earth who did this to him have never been found. Can't believe somebody doesn't know who they are.
Sorry this is such a sad ending but perhaps some of you like me, might have wondered what happened to him. Poor poor hero.

Thanks everyone. Glad some of you remembered him. I'm angry that nobody has come forward to identify the two morons that did this to him. Also, there must be somebody out there that knew this dog, unless the poor thing was hidden from sight all his life. I must let this go ... it's too upsetting and sadly won't be the last case of its kind. I was hoping lankeela would see this as she started the original post.

That's utterly heartbreaking. I hope he was happy for those two short weeks. Things like this just come back and haunt me time and time again. RIP little feller xxxx

Me too viv, little Hero has haunted me since I first read about him. Yes he did have a very brief period at the end of his life when he was loved and cared for and played with a toy, would you believe, as well as wagged his tail. That somehow makes it all the more poignant for me.

Sounds like incompetence on the part of the RSPCA to me - he was alive until he got into their clutches, two weeks of their treatment and he's dead.

In my experience of the RSPCA they probably put it to sleep once they had got the publicity from it. At peace now though.

I can't comment on the RSPCA as I am in Scotland, but everyone seem to have negative things to say about them. The people within the organisation will be trying to do the best that they can with the money available to them.

It is horrendous how some people can treat animals. I can't understand how you could physically do something like that. They would have been better off just taking him straight to the RSPCA once they'd had enough of him. At least he might have had a chance.
