Ms Winfrey is an African-American woman - you can tell if you look at her picture or see her on TV.
"I am so proud of African-American history and its contributions to our nation as a whole," says Winfrey, chairman and CEO of the Oprah Winfrey Network. "I am deeply appreciative of those who paved the path for me and all who follow in their footsteps."
""When I come to this site and see hundreds of people — black, white and Latino — working on this," Bunch says, "in some ways it says what the African-American experience is, which is the story of us all."

Bit difficult to interpret the quote, isn't it? The speaker uses 'in some ways' as a caveat or condition and then includes everybody, black , white, and latino, the whole workforce, as a body which represents what black experience has been. We'll have to put it down to poetic or rhetorical language. It doesn't bear aog's literal or prosaic construction
