I think it is the right thing to do but, stating the obvious, there will be plenty who don't for various reasons. Madeleine deserves it as the Portuguese investigation was botched.

sqad does it matter who her parents are? A little girl is missing and her disappearance was never been investigated properly unlike the disappearance of some, but not all, other children.

You may well be right, but i doubt whether the Portuguese Authorities would agree. What you seem to be implying and please forgive me if i am wrong, but unless the British police have investigated a crime, then it is likely that it hasn't been investigated "properly".....a hint of arrogance but you may well be right.

My point is, that should the same situation happen to a child of The Bloggs family......would the Government provide funding?....I doubt it.

No sqad, that's not what I was implying at all. The Portuguese Police have refused to re-open the case despite the Met coming up with a list of suspects and leads that need investigation. So the Met will be doing it. I'm glad SOMEbody is doing it. And No, I agree, I don't think it would happen for Mr & Mrs Bloggs unless they put the pressure on like the McCanns did, unfortunately. But it should.
