There was an interesting interview with David Icke in yesterdays Sunday Times Magazine. I am not able to provide a link here but I expect many people will have read it. Here is a link to his own website ::

Potty ideas, but he's a clever man - and extremely well-read. He's no fool.

nobody ever went bust underestimating the stupidity of the public
I think that should be 'overestimating their stupidity'

or 'underestimating their intelligence'

oh never mind...

Came across as fairly nuts to me when I read Them by Jon Ronson... but you can be nuts and intelligent.

Sometimes you are a terrible disappointment here on AB ! I was hoping that somebody was going to defend Icke and tell us why they thought what he was saying was true ! Perhaps I should have sent my original post to Society and Culture section...they seem much more feisty there !
I suppose it takes a certain twisted ingenuity to be able to spew forth even total rubbish in a convincing way. But assuming he takes what he says seriously, I think we're dignifying him too much to call him "clever". Well-read, literate, persuasive apparently. But utterly thick if he believes his claptrap.
We have a friend who is very taken with this sort of stuff, and commented to us that David Icke is seen as mainstream religion in the States these days. Oh dear.
Wasn't there a society which believed that George V1 hadn't died but had been taken by the Venusians to their home planet? Harmless eccentricity does have its place in the grander scheme.
Never heard of that one Sandy.

Harmless eccentricity is fine, as far as it goes - I worry that it is something of a stretch to describe Icke in such terms though. He has many followers, many of whom have a religous zeal for his thought and utterings, and take them totally at face value. And he has views about everything- conspiracy, healthcare, global warming, all of this - and, because of his charisma and standing with his followers, they believe. This can be dangerous, I think, rather than merely eccentric.

David Icke is at that intersection where harmless eccentricity meets dangerous cult leader, in my view.
David Icke is madder than Mad Jack mcMad, but is turning over a tidy profit on the (rather gullible) US speaker circuit with his 'show'.
///One of his latest soundbites is that he believes the Royal Family are not human beings but shape-changing lizards ! How can anybody, even the uneducated possibly think that is true ? ////

Camilla ?
Having googled I see it wasn't King George V1 I had half remembered but George King, founder of the Aetherius Society. An easy mistake to make, I suppose.

I'm not terribly surprised if he is a success in America, as our ex-Colonial cousins are quite a bit less incredulous than us over here, although we appear to be catching them rather too fast for my liking.

I just want somebody to explain why THEY believe in this drivel ?
Always remember that a religion is simply a cult that has been around a bit longer.
When you come to think of it, has anyone ever seen ER carrying a crocodile skin handbag? They're closely related to lizards and to do so would be almost akin to canniballism.
sandyRoe, but maybe she realise the lizard form when when she is in human form!

I must admit I have never seen Liz carrying a lizard skin handbag when in lizard form. Strange that!
And Sarah Ferguson once showed real discomfort during a visit to a reptile house of a zoo. Perhaps she senses something of Andrew in its scaly inhabitants.
i thought it was all a load of nonsense, it's starting to make sense to me now
sandyRoe, maybe she recognised the huge trouser snake!
But would that have discomforted her?
