The Bank of England is considering which woman to have on a banknote, a proposal not advanced further by Mervyn King saying that we have one already, the Queen!

Who would you have? She must be dead and not controversial. I propose Mrs Pankhurst, whose campaign was violent , thus controversial, but that fact is now overlooked. Mary Seacole has, of course, been suggested, but I feel that, although acknowledged in her own time, she is primarily supported now because she is something of an icon simply because she happened to be black. That does not strike me as a valid reason, however desirable.

Please 'NOT' Margaret Thatcher!!!!

Margaret Thatcher would be good,
a symbol of Strength over Adversity.
I'd suggest Ada Lovelace, for her work on Babbage's Analytical Engine that led to much of modern computer technology.
My granny!!!...had 13 kids never moaned..good Catholic lady I adored her...
Oh god please not Diana.
Catherine Bramwell-Booth (im not religious or a member of the salvation army) but she was a great woman. not a name that comes up often but inspirational nonetheless.
Amy Winehouse.
Jane Austen?
You recommend someone whose campaign was violent despite saying not controversial ?

Mmmm.... if the value was quite low, say a ½p banknote, Maggie could be an option. I could put up a hook in the bathroom.
Jane Austen good idea,
Aphra Behn
Boudicca
She'd be controversial. Didn't care much for our European neighbours.
I propose minty, a good looking, well-versed woman who has been there done that and is still doing it so well.
Albs !!! You are so sweet...I'm truly humbled...thank you....
Sob sob....xxxx
Sandyr
they got along as people have to until this happened, not sure she would be a good choice, but i applaud her stance against the Roman hordes. No one knows how she died, but the myth is her remains are somewhere under Kings Cross station.

Boudica's husband Prasutagus, ruler of the Iceni tribe, who had ruled as a nominally independent ally of Rome, left his kingdom jointly to his daughters and the Roman Emperor in his will; however, when he died, his will was ignored —the kingdom was annexed as if conquered, Boudica was flogged, her daughters were raped, and Roman financiers called in their loans.
mrs o - international model that she is - but in both minty's and her candidature, they are supposed to have snuffed it, which obviously they have not so that rules them out.

Hasn't Florry Nightie been on a 50 already?

Mrs Payne would get my vote.....otherwise Jane Austen or Barbara Hepworth

my vote goes to Amy Johnson

Aviator, 1903-1941

After becoming the first woman to fly solo from Britain to Australia in 1930, the pioneering aviator went on to set a slew of long-distance flying records. She died after going off-course in bad weather while transporting RAF aircraft around the country for the Air Transport Auxiliary during the Second World War.
don't see why Mrs Pankhurst is controversial, any more so than some of the men featured.
