Can anybody tell me when i will be able to download movies, magazines, newspapers etc on kindle fire?? I live in Ireland and have my kindle a year and a half and still cant get this service. Seriously annoying. Would not recommend it to anybody if they asked me about it. Other tablets available on the market are way ahead of the kindle fire

It seems you are not alone, and it is a valid complaint as some large stores are selling it in ROI. http://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/kindle?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx3IRFCNF3E5K2W&cdThread=Tx3IZZDKBK5T0KZ I will be very interested to hear the outcome of your email or phone call to Amazon. Shame you bought it. :(

Why don't you ask this question of Amazon? They would be best placed to answer this and they are usually very helpful in my experience.
It does seem odd that you joined Answerbank today just to sl@g off the Kindle Fire.
I have movies on mine. I transfer movies from my PC to my Kindle, and use the VLC media player application, which I downloaded directly to the Kindle.

Not sure if you can watch streamed films on the Kindle or not - never tried.

Cannot answer your comment about Newspapers and Magazines - do you mean you cannot get a subscription to them in Ireland? That sounds slightly odd...

I think the Kindle is great for books, if you want to make use of Amazon. It is good for browsing the internet, emails, chatforums and the like. It is less useful in any wider context.

I did not join up today to "***" of kindle fire i was merely stating the facts!!

Just heard back from Amazon regarding using kindle fire in Ireland (apps, movies, magazines etc.) I am none the wiser!! They couldnt give a time, date or even a year!! All i got was a very vague reply. Sorry i bought it now. Anybody want to buy a Kindle fire!!!!!!
No, thanks, I don't like any product tied to company :(

Is the problem due to Amazon or the Irish laws?
Boy #2 has a kindle fire (he's 9, maybe they are more switched on to technology).
sherrardk, are you in ROI? This is a problem specific to that country.

Im not sure what the prob is. When i try to buy/rent a movie or subscribe to newspaper/magazines it asks for an american billing address. Like i Said in last post, the reply from Amazon was very vague. Think i will just go buy a tablet that i can actually use here
Did you buy it in Ireland?

I am very pleased with my Nexus 7, btw.

I ordered it from Simply Electronics which are an Irish company. No point crying over spilled milk at this stage just wont buy Amazon products!!!!!
Sell on eBay - the Fire is very popular in the UK.

Good idea. Thanks For all the advice :-)
I now have a 32gb Kobo Arc and I watched 'Lincoln' on it over the weekend and had no issues, it's probably an Amazon thing, my main selling point at work is the fact that you are not tied to one site for books etc. and people seem to feel that'sa bonus of the Kobo devices.
According to this article the Kindle is now fully functional in RoI, with the excpetion on the mp3 library.

Dot, it's not an Amazon thing, it's a RoI licensing thing.
